Orange

March 30, 2016 - 6:46pm
With Houston and Indianapolis only a few days away, the Syracuse community had a chance to cheer on their teams.

Syracuse marked a historic season for their men’s and women’s basketball teams by holding a pep rally at Manley Field House on Wednesday afternoon.

The event helped celebrate both teams advancing to the Final Four for the first time in school history, and just the 13th time in NCAA history a school has pulled off the feat.

Syracuse fans young and old packed the bleachers in Manley to see the teams off. Both Jim Boeheim and Quentin Hillsman joined their players onstage to show their appreciation.

Freshman forward Tyler Lydon paced Syracuse with a career-high 21 points.

Freshman forward Tyler Lydon had one of his best games of the season for Syracuse (18-10, 8-7 ACC) against the Pittsburgh Panthers (19-7, 8-6) on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, nobody else on the Orange stepped up as they dropped their second consecutive game by the count of 66-52.

Interim head coach Mike Hopkins won his first game at the helm.

The Syracuse Orange (7-2) have now won 50 straight games against the Colgate Raiders (2-6). The Raiders haven’t beaten Syracuse since Feb. 24, 1962, by a score of 67-63 in the Manley Field House. John F. Kennedy was the President of the United States and interim head coach Mike Hopkins hadn’t been born yet.

Syracuse gets doubled up in rebounding, falls short to Badgers in OT.

A Thanksgiving championship hangover may have led to the lackluster performance on the glass as the Orange dropped their first game of the season, 66-58, to the Wisconsin Badgers in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge.

The Orange look determined to continue its winning ways after defeating a strong opponent in Seattle, 3-1, on Sunday.

It's been an incredible season for Orange athletics. Just a few weeks ago, the Syracuse field hockey and cross country teams won national championships. Now, the men's soccer team has punched its first-ever ticket to the Elite Eight. It's not a national championship, yet, but the team is only three wins away- which to expect wouldn't be too outlandish.

In what almost seemed scripted, Orange give victorious send off to its beloved leader.

Hardnosed, tough-minded and gutsy. These superlatives often have open-ended definitions, and are cliché terms in the world of sports. How one term differentiates from another is challenging for even the most skilled of linguists.

November 18, 2015 - 9:47am
The Bonnies held the lead for most of the game, but strong second-half play from Syracuse overcame the deficit.

The announced Carrier Dome attendance had quite a few St. Bonaventure (1-1) fans in the stands out of the 21,379 people that came to see the matchup. They were loud, visible, and pestering Orange fans throughout the game. However, Syracuse (2-0) had the last cheer as the Orange overcame a 32-21 deficit to topple St. Bonaventure 79-66.

Orange to travel to Chapel Hill in quarter-finals, seeking revenge for a come-from-behind loss earlier in the season.

It only took 11 minutes for the Orange to pick up where they left off against North Carolina State Wednesday night in the first round of the ACC Tournament. Just 10 days earlier, Syracuse won in come-from-behind fashion against the very same Wolfpack.

November 3, 2015 - 12:40pm
The Orange came out of the off-season ripe and ready for action.

Graduate student Michael Gbinije scored 21 points and added 4 assists in a Syracuse dominated game.

“Football’s a game of inches,” head coach Scott Shafer said. “It’s one play here, one play there that can determine the outcome of a ball game and we saw that.”

The Syracuse football team (3-4, 1-2) gave the No. 25 Pittsburgh Panthers (6-1, 4-0) all they could handle, but fell just short with the end result being the same as their previous three contests. The Panthers kicked a last-second field goal to defeat the Orange 23-20.
