A double-header loaded with penalties; the Orange could handle the rough-housing.

Sophomore defenseman Dakota Derrer opened the scoring just 1:39 into the game as Syracuse (11-12-3) avenged Friday’s 2-1 OT loss to the Tigers (6-19-1) with a solid 3-0 victory on Saturday.

“I had a lot of shots blocked last night and I was trying for that not to happen,” Derrer said following the win. “Right off the face-off I got my feet moving, saw an opening, shot the puck [on net], and it trickled in.”

The longest game in program history ends in heartbreak.

Syracuse fired 45 shots toward RIT goaltender Ali Binnington during Saturday's CHA title game, more than enough to create a few golden scoring chances.

But it could only convert once and let a golden playoff opportunity slip away.

The Orange took an early lead on a redirection goal by Emily Costales, but couldn't light the lamp in overtime as RIT fought back for a 2-1 victory and an automatic berth in the NCAA championship tournament.

March 7, 2015 - 1:27am

Syracuse's first shorthanded goal of the season couldn't have come at a more opportune time.

Allie LaCombe's tally in the first period stood as the game-winner, and goaltender Jenn Gilligan made 11 saves as the No. 2-seeded Orange knocked off No. 4 Penn State 2-0 in the CHA semifinals Friday evening.

With a win over RIT on Saturday, Syracuse will receive a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

SU jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Lindenwood, but couldn't hold it through the final two periods.

42. To "The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy" fans, it’s the answer to life. To professional sports fans, it’s the number Jackie Robinson used to break the Major League Baseball color barrier.

To Syracuse University junior forward Melissa Piacentini, it’s the record number of career goals she has scored while suiting up for the Orange women’s ice hockey team.

SU musters only one goal in a pair of games against the No. 10-ranked team in the country.

Syracuse entered the weekend with a streak of four-consecutive tie games, but defending national champion Clarkson completely shattered it Friday afternoon.

Led by Genevieve Bannon's hat trick, the Golden Knights dismantled the Orange, 9-0, in Potsdam, N.Y., during the first game of a weekend twinbill.

October 12, 2014 - 12:51pm
Alysha Burriss' first career goal the lone tally for SU.

Despite a strong first period, Syracuse (1-1-1) couldn’t put away a physical and relentless Northeastern (0-0-1) team. Alysha Burriss scored the first goal of her SU career, but U.S. Olympian Kendall Coyne scored the equalizer to help the Huskies escape with a 1-1 draw.
