Orange wins bizarre game on touchdown pass by Riley Dixon in double overtime.

Syracuse turned to an unlikely hero Friday night at the Carrier Dome.

After all, it’s not every day the punter throws an eventual game-winning touchdown on a fake field goal attempt.

Facing fourth and goal from the Villanova one-yard line in double overtime, punter and place-holder Riley Dixon connected with tight end Kendall Moore for a go-ahead touchdown. Moments later, Robert Welsh tackled Wildcat quarterback John Robertson on a two-point conversion attempt to help SU escape with a 27-26 victory.

Austin Wilson will lead the Orange offense in the second half.

Syracuse quarterback Terrel Hunt was ejected from Friday evening's season-opener against Villanova after throwing a punch at defender Dillon Lucas.

Hunt scrambled for a first down with 3:24 left in the second quarter when he was hit above the shoulders by Lucas. When both players landed on the turf, Hunt immediately clenched his left hand and struck the facemask of Lucas.

SU student-athletes share their daily rituals and superstitions that they believe affect their game.

Basketball legend Michael Jordan wore his University of North Carolina basketball shorts under his Chicago Bulls uniform every game. Hall of Famer Wade Boggs was known for eating a chicken before each baseball game. Top female tennis player Serena Williams always brings her shower sandals to the court.

But why do these athletes do these same things before every game?
