As a kid at Patterson Catholic High School, Victor Cruz heard about alum Tim Thomas, a former NBA basketball player who never visited his old community. Cruz knew that he wanted to be the exact opposite.
“I want them to see me and know that I am a role model for children," Cruz said. "I am a role model for anyone that wants to be a professional athlete and activist."
Vice President Joe Biden brought his fight to end violence against women to Goldstein Auditorium on Thursday.
Vice President Joe Biden addressed students in Goldstein Auditorium on Thursday as part of the It’s On Us Week of Action to end sexual assault on college campuses. He talked about his experiences on Capitol Hill fighting to end violence against women and said it was the responsibility of the community to stop it.
The group hosted an artist social Thursday, where students presented their art and talent.
More than 70 students and alumni attended the Artist Social, hosted by the Black Artist League, on Thursday night at the Schine Student Center. Several students shared their talents and works of art with attendants and earned applause and support in return.

Both kings and queens competed for the champion title in the final round of the 13th Annual Totally Fabulous Drag Show. The competition was fun, fierce and brought a bit of drag culture to the Syracuse University campus.
"This has been a really positive influence on my life," competitor E Millz said. "It's a whole new culture that I've never been a part of before."
The final round of the '13th Annual Totally Fabulous Drag Show' will be held February 27th at 10pm in Goldstein Auditorium in the Schine Student Center.
The preliminary round of the 13th Annual Totally Fabulous Drag Show took place in front of a nearly sold out audience weeks ago and tonight's final round is looking to be even better.
After performances concluded during the the first round on February 12th, SU students E. Millz and SB were among the few given the golden ticket to advance to the final round of the annual drag show competition.

“I am really happy,” said Jacqueline Sarro, an arts and sciences freshman. “We are supposed to go to a theater tonight for the Spanish class and now we don’t have to go.”
A brawl during a dance party at the Schine Student Center early Sunday morning resulted in a variety of charges, including disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Nine individuals, at least eight of them Syracuse University students, were arrested in connection with a fight that broke out just before 2 a.m. Sunday at a dance party in the Schine Student Center.
Kelley Purcell teaches a yoga class at SU that helps students exercise in a way that is relaxing for both mind and body.
Yoga is part of Kelley Purcell's life.
Purcell, 24, a graduate student at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, teaches science classes for elementary students through college level, but also works as a certified yoga instructor for Syracuse University's Healthy Mondays.
At 4 p.m., students gather for the one-hour Shakti yoga class in room 228B at the Schine Student Center. In this class, yogis focus on breathing properly and understanding the movements of their body.
