SU's Orange Madness will treat Syracuse fans and students to a preview of the men's and women's basketball teams before the season.

On Oct. 12, former SU basketball star Scoop Jardine and Jazmine Jordan, daughter of Michael Jordan, will host Orange Madness in the Carrier Dome, the SU athletics department announced Wednesday.

This year's special guest performer is rapper Wale, who has produced two studio albums with a third due to be released in early 2013. Tickets are free open to the public, and the event is set to begin at 8 p.m.

SU holds off late Seton Hall charge to win its Big East opener.

The Orange, now 7-2 on the season, defeated the Seton Hall Pirates in their Big East opener tonight by a score of 1-0. Freshman midfielder Jordan Vale was able to get on the opposite end of a corner kick in the 26th minute to beat the Pirate goaltender for the only goal of the night.

The SU field hockey team finish the weekend 2-0, pushing its win total to seven on the year.

All-American Liz McInerney had a career day, scoring once and adding three assists as No. 2 Syracuse dominated Kent State with a score of 7-1 on Sunday.

The Orange (7-0) held the Golden Flashes (4-5) in submission right from the beginning, maintaining ball possession for more than 60 percent of the game.

McInerney credited her performance on the players she set up the goals for.

SU field hockey continues its fine play this season as Big East play begins against Villanova.

Syracuse's field hockey team — ranked No. 2 in the nation — opened up Big East play on Friday with a less-than-dominant 5-2 victory over the Villanova Wildcats.

Sophomore Lauren Brooks and junior Leonie Geyer each scored two goals in the game, and the Orange (6-0) held a 4-0 lead at halftime over the Wildcats (4-3).

The reigning Big East champions last saw Villanova in the Big East semifinals, where the Orange handily beat the 'Cats 3-0 behind goals from three different players, including All-American Kelsey Millman.

After 40 years of coaching, Connecticut's basketball legend decides to hang it up after 873 wins and three national championships.

After watching Notre Dame officially announce its move to the ACC, the Big East has been dealt another blow. Jim Calhoun, head coach of the UConn Huskies, is set to retire today.

SU is beginning to reap the benefits from playing at MetLife Stadium in front of a nationally televised audience.

This past Saturday, SU traveled to MetLife Stadium to play USC in hopes of creating a fanbase and strengthening their brand as a school and as a program. It worked.

The classic posted a rating of 3.3, behind only Florida and Texas A&M, but 4.7 million viewers tuned in to watch SU take on USC, while only 4.5 million tuned in for the Florida game.

SU alums Gait, Hill and Lockwood to be inducted into the Upstate New York Lacrosse Hall of Fame

Former Syracuse University lacrosse greats Gary Gait, Ron Hill and Charlie Lockwood will be inducted into the Upstate New York Hall of Sunday, Oct. 21 in East Syracuse.

Their induction will boost the count of SU inductees into the Hall to 19.

Gait, current head coach of the SU women’s lacrosse team and 2005 National Lacrosse Hall of Fame Inductee, set the school’s single season goals record after netting 70 in 1988. Gait was also a four-time All-American and won the National Player of the Year in 1988 and 1990.

The Carrier Dome will be home to an exhibition game between the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers in October.

According to a Syracuse.com article, this fall, Carmelo Anthony will be returning to the friendly, memorable confines of the Carrier Dome. This time, however, he’ll be suited up as a New York Knick, as Anthony’s squad will face the Philadelphia 76ers in a preseason matchup on Mon., Oct. 22.

The game will be a homecoming of sorts for Anthony who led Syracuse to a National Championship in 2003 and has since had the practice facility named after him.

The Orange become the first ever Big East tournament champions with a win over St. John's.

It was another easy day for the Orange men's lacrosse team as it cruised by the St. John's Red Storm in the inaugural Big East lacrosse tournament championship. Syracuse shut down St. John's in the first half, heading into the locker room up 7-0. The second half was a lot more relaxed. The Orange got a lot of subs into the game and ended up with a 12-4 victory. 

Here are my three thoughts from the game:

The Orange dominated Villanova on its home turf in the opening round of the Big East Tournament in Philadelphia

It was a close game for the first half of the Big East Tournament semifinal, but the back-and-forth game didn't last for long. The Orange led 6-4 at the half but a nine goal second half and a scoreless fourth quarter for the Wildcats gave Syracuse a 15-6 victory.
