An assortment of performers dressed in eye-catching costumes mingled with fairgoers at the 23rd annual Westcott Street Cultural Fair.

Artists, service organizations, trinkets for sale, cultural performances and food from local restaurants drew crowds to Sunday's Westcott Street Cultural Fair.

The fair ran for 12 days and captured an array of the Empire State's culture from livestock, to Native American Heritage, to fried tasty treats.

The Great New York State Fair is a buzzing, wonderfully chaotic place, where hundreds of thousands of people from all across the Empire State gather to celebrate all that this glorious state has to offer. Whether you’re a city-dweller or making your way in from the country, whether you’ve come to claim a blue ribbon for your prized cattle or come to eat deep-fried Oreos and ride the tilt-a-whirl until you hurl, the fair has something for everyone.

A ceramics graduate student's work reflects his Southern roots, travels and passions.

Andrew McIntyre is a burly guy with a long drawl, the kind of guy most people would describe as a little bearish, but his hands are as delicate as a surgeon's.

Andrew McIntyre is a potter.

Growing up in a creative home in the deep South (his grandfather was a carpenter, his father an ice sculptor, his sister a photographer), McIntyre discovered ceramics young and then, as he puts it, “just kept on throwing.”

Anthony DiMare developed a collapsible sailboat aimed at getting city dwellers on the water.

It all started because of a girl.

It was summer 2012 and Anthony DiMare had met someone at a party two weeks before school ended. He invited himself to go visit her in New York City and wanted to do something special.

“I thought, ‘I’ll take her sailing,’” said DiMare, a recent Syracuse University graduate in mechanical engineering. “Beautiful summer day, 85 degrees, nice, consistent breeze, Statue of Liberty, the sunset. It was going to be great. It was going to be the quintessential romantic thing anyone could ever do.”

Nice weather never comes fast enough in Central New York. Look fresh as a daisy but keep warm this Spring with these transitional weather fashion tips.

Spring in Syracuse encompasses all types of weather. Temperatures linger in the lower 20s at the beginning of the week, but by Friday they climb to the 50s. There may be snow in the morning, sun by mid afternoon, and hail by nightfall. With fluctuating temperatures and bitter cold winds, deciding what to wear becomes a challenge. Mother Nature forces students to dress for bipolar temperatures and weather conditions, which often leaves them confused in a heaping pile of clothes. Make the transition from winter to spring smooth and stylish by incorporating layers.

As the snow starts to melt and the days get longer, getting out of your sleepy winter routine can be a hard first step. Follow these tips, and you'll be ready for bikini season before the Quad thaws out.
