As many of us know it, may seem like nothing more than a modern, uncivilized tradition -- but this rowdy rite of passage has a surprisingly long and storied history.

From an ambitious swim coach's spring training trip to today's week-long party complete with bathing suits, bad behavior and booze, click through the timeline above for a brief chronology of spring break in the United States.

With the Emmys and Golden Globes come-and-gone, this year's red carpet trends are already set. Check out our wrapup to get up to date on what will be walking the carpet at this year's Academy Awards.

While celebrities are under constant scrutiny for what they wear in daily life, nothing beats the critique or praise they receive for their red carpet choices—we have the Fashion Police to thank for that. With the Grammys and the Golden Globes already behind us, the fashion faux pas and trends to watch out for have already been set.  And in prepartion for the upcoming Academy Awards on March 2, here are some trends to look out for:

On Friday night, Syracuse University Pride Union hosted its yearly student drag show. The night was MC'd by celebrity drag queen Shangela Laquifa Wadley, and consisted of several high-energy acts from student drag queens and kings.

The 12th Annual Totally Fabulous Drag Show finals were held Feb. 21 in the Goldstein Auditorium. The auditorium was packed with eager students and Syracuse residents.

Johanna Celo is 89 years old. She is struggling with dementia and the loss of identity that accompanies it. She lives alone and is visited by her family every day, but during the hours spent by herself, the loneliness pervades. Johanna's story is my story. She is my grandmother.

Athletic competition turns into a sportswear runway at the Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics — and Sochi showcased clear winners and losers in the fashion department.

When the Olympics come around every two years, there’s always buzz: buzz about the athletes, the location and the events. But now, there’s almost just as much buzz about who makes the biggest fashion statement in the Opening Ceremonies. The stadium has become as much a runway as a parade of nations. Take a look at which countries were a hit and which ones missed the mark in Sochi.

The pop-up food court was hosted at the Alibrandi Catholic Center on Saturday, and included dishes from Iran, Bhutan and the Mowhawk Nation.

On Saturday night, more than 400 local Syracuse residents, Syracuse University students, and members of Syracuse’s refugee communities came together at the Alibrandi Catholic Center for My Lucky Tummy, a celebration of cultural cuisine and community.

My Lucky Tummy is a cultural pop-up food court. Held in February, May and October, My Lucky Tummy recruits five local refugee and New American chefs to share their native dishes with other refugees and with locals.

Outdoor training in these sub-zero temperatures can be challenging -- but when dressed appropriately, winter workouts can be a real treat for the senses.

The first few months of the year are the perfect time to implement new training goals and healthy changes. But it can be a battle to deal with cold temperatures, shorter days and — for many students — adapting to a new region with abnormally brutal weather patterns.

Luckily for us, Central New York is full of outdoor beauty. When the weather permits, let the outdoors inspire you to pull on some warm clothes and fulfill that New Year’s exercise resolution — and burn off all those holiday cookies you consumed over winter break.

Students pitch tents outside Gate E more than a week before the sold-out, Feb. 1 showdown in the Carrier Dome to establish an SU-Duke rivalry.

Wondering what the Devil they're doing outside?

Students have already set up shop outside the Carrier Dome with the excitement of the Syracuse-Duke men's basketball matchup nearly two weeks before tip-off.

This week's dangerously cold temperatures have temporarily suspended students from camping overnight in the so-called "Boheimburg." But thanks to the student fan club, Otto's Army, those who braved the freezing weather won't lose their place in line for the Feb. 1 game.
