For the fourth annual Wellness Week, Syracuse University services and organizations collaborate to put on a week of events that promote physical, nutritional and holistic health.

Running has always been a passion for Syracuse graduate student Danielle Kennedy.

Before graduate school, Kennedy was an All-American track and field athlete.

Now, Kennedy doesn’t have the motivation and pressure of her coaches and teammates to keep her on the path to eating healthy and staying physically fit.

“I have to find self motivation,” Kennedy said.

“I noticed that after I run I’m motivated to do everything. I’m the most motivated to eat a healthy dinner, to go to the library to do homework, and to find time to hang out with my friends.”

Roux is a pop-up dining experience that focuses on sensory and design elements, and was created by two industrial design majors with shared interests.

It started with a mutual love.

The love of design and food helped Rohan Thakore and Ryn Adkins, both fourth year industrial design students, to create Roux.

Roux is a pop-up dining experience that blends food and design, such that it looks past what is on the plate and focuses on the entire sensory experience of eating. Thakore and Adkins have done three events and want to continue to find ways to share their interests. For Thakore, a passion for food is where his path to Roux began.

Despite suffering from chronic Lyme Disease, Manlius resident Sylvia O'Connor raised four daughters, explored creative expression.

It wasn’t that she struggled to remember the names of her daughters’ friends. It wasn’t that she would forget to pick up her children after soccer practice. It wasn’t that she couldn’t remember the current year or how to count coins. It wasn’t that her foggy mind made her the family outcast. For Sylvia O’Connor, the worst part of Lyme disease was the pain, she said.

“Imagine if you slammed your hand into a car door and you could not extract your hand. You’re talking about pain that’s beyond pain — and you’re living with it,” O’Connor said.
