Two Syracuse couples share their respective stories of what keeps a relationship working for Valentine's Day.

The love that Lydia and Earl Smith share spans 75 years.

The couple first met in Waterville, N.Y. when Lydia was 15 years old and Earl was 19. After two years of dating, Earl proposed to Lydia in a letter. The young couple were married on Nov. 9, 1943.
Now in their 90s, the couple seem just as passionate as ever. Earl often refers to Lydia as “my love,” and the couple are always seen holding hands around the James Square Health & Rehabilitation Centre in Syracuse.

Commentary: Ladies, you didn't actually think you'd get a dozen roses, right?

College is a breeding ground for your expectations to be completely crushed by the harshness that is reality. When in college, we still have the naivety to expect things that likely won't happen, and the hammer of truth comes down hard when we find out they don't. It's like we are constantly living in one of those "expectation vs reality" memes.

The NewsHouse team combed campus to see if Tyler and Katy could make loveable first impressions.

What if a stranger approached you on the street with a heart-shaped bouquet of fake roses, asking you to be their Valentine? Would you say yes? Would you walk away quickly?

Katy Beals and I took to the Hill to see how people would react to such a situation. Maybe it was the cold weather, maybe it was tacky fake roses, but the duo received mixed results during their casual competition.

Perched outside Marshal Square Mall, between Schine Student Center and Newhouse and on the Quad, we tried multiple methods of finding Valentines on cold-yet-sunny February morning.

Check out how Valentine's Day made its mark on 'Cuse this year.

Congratulations, you survived another Valentine's Day! Whether you spent it cuddling up to a special someone or hanging out with your friends, we hope that you felt the love.

Scouring campus and the Syracuse community, we saw signs of celebration all around, from heart-shaped balloons to semi-creepy kittens.

Syracuse University students, young children from the Bernice Wright lab school and The NewsHouse lead producers wax poetic about love.

Valentine's Day has never been simple. Everyone has an opinion somewhere in between on what they think love is. Accordingly, the NewsHouse decided to ask, because clearly we can't pin it down, right? We talked to the Bernice M. Wright Child Development Lab School to get their opinions as well as the views of SU students across the hill. Read the staff's answers below:
