13TH (2016) (Netflix Original) Oscar nominated director Ava debuts a new film on America’s prison system. Her power and influence has vastly grown since her film Selma. Referencing the constitutional amendment barring slavery, the film takes a look at mass incarceration, slavery and the discrimination within the criminal justice system. The film also talks about Trump’s advocacy for the death penalty and Clinton’s response to “systematic racism.” What a way to tackle the presidential candidates, just before elections.
