In light of the announcement that Hungry Chucks, the beloved Marshall Street bar, will eventually close after the entire strip is demolished, The NewsHouse staff decided to tease a glimmer of false hope to our readers.
Happy April Fool's Day! We're sorry to say Chuck's is not opening a location in the lot where the old Hoople Special Education building once stood.
News producer Ellen Meyers wrote the fake Chuck's story, and multimedia producer Dominique Hildebrand brought the lie to life with this graphic.
Social media producer Jackie Prager upped the ante by pushing the story on Facebook and Twitter.
The real Chuck's played along, even though we didn't tell them about our plans. They later admitted that this was unfortunately a joke.
Did we trick you? Don't feel bad, you weren't the only one.
Messed up indeed, if it were true.
Of course, some Orange students with an affinity toward Chuck's wish the story wasn't an April Fool's prank.
Maybe this taught an important lesson on fake news?
Sorry, y'all.
