Sorry to say it, Chuck's is still closing.

In light of the announcement that Hungry Chucks, the beloved Marshall Street bar, will eventually close after the entire strip is demolished, The NewsHouse staff decided to tease a glimmer of false hope to our readers.

Happy April Fool's Day! We're sorry to say Chuck's is not opening a location in the lot where the old Hoople Special Education building once stood.

April 1, 2015 - 8:11pm
How Syracuse's popular black squirrels inspired us to create a fictitious student organization. Oh, yeah. And April Fool's played a part, too.

On April 1, The NewsHouse broke the story about a student organization that evolved over a common cause: saving our black squirrels, SOBS. Or when you really break it down, So BS.

Yes. That's right. We got you!

We may have had you believing that the curiously cute, and kind of rare, acorn-loving creatures were becoming endangered. The idea was a collaborative effort amongst all of the lead producers here at The NewsHouse.

Hundreds within the SU community took part in first day dedicated to staying in the know as news consumers and participants.

UPDATE at 10 p.m., Tuesday

Thanks to the hundreds of Syracuse University students, faculty members and staff who participated in the first National News Engagement Day today.

The Newhouse School played host to a bevy of activities to encourage students across campus to stay in the know.

The Uber-like campus car service fooled a few hoping long waits for South Campus buses were a thing of the past.

OK, the jig is up.

This morning The NewsHouse published a story which detailed a slick, new, app-driven car service which was set to replace the university shuttle busses which we all know and love. Unfortunately, while the thought of never again having to wait in Syracuse's sub-zero temperatures for a bus to class is a rosy thought -- it is not a true one.

So, in the spirit of belated transparency, here is how the SUber story came to be:

April 1, 2013 - 10:13pm
The previously announced departure of SU's chancellor was prime material for our annual April Fools' tradition.

When Chancellor Nancy Cantor announced she’d be stepping down in 2014, many saw it as the end of an era. We saw it as an opportunity to Photoshop her face onto a bus wrap.

The NewsHouse created a fake news story for April 1 visitors about three proposed Cantor tributes — a “Nancy Rising” statue featuring Shaquille O'Neal, a “Connective Cantorridor” rebranding and a huge, smiling brick face mosaic in the Quad. Our completely non-scientific poll had the statue winning by a landslide.

Watch as NewsHouse Lead Producers Megan Paolone and Ellie Wilkinson create our website's logo in pumpkin form.

At our Lead Producers' meeting on October 23, Megan Paolone and Ellie Wilkinson teamed up to take on a most formidable challenge:  Render the website's logo in spooky vegetable form. Using their superior carving abilities and apt judgements of positive and negative space, they conquered that feat with flying colors.

Check out their progress below via time-lapse:

Here's how we cashed in on the Nicki Minaj rumor mill for April Fools' Day.

Thank you, Nicki Minaj and Sabine DaSilva. Your tweets inspired us. After a major rumor dropped on Twitter mid-March about pop sensation Minaj headlining the SU Block Party, the school, the students and Minaj herself got into a slight yet public kerfuffle. It was too good to pass up.

Forget the long hours shooting, editing and writing the script. The hardest part of producing 'Sh*t Cuse Girls Say' was getting the stars to wear lipstick.

In the back room of Recess Coffee House & Roastery where no one could see, The NewsHouse stylist Angela Hu backed a young man into a corner and forcibly swiped a sheen of Revlon's Raspberry Bite lipstick across his mouth, despite multiple protests.
