Pop star Aaron Carter remixes his image on After Party tour

Review: Now 25, pop singer Aaron Carter invited fans to the After Party at The Westcott Theater on Sunday Feb. 24.

Aaron Carter diehards waited for six hours outside The Westcott Theater in the snow and rain on Sunday afternoon, just so they could be front and center for The After Party Tour.

Their wait was well worth it.

Catherine Sasso lined up with two friends outside the Westcott around 1 p.m. hoping that she’d get a peek at Carter when his van pulled up.

The Elevated Underground offers big sound in a small space on the Westside

The trio behind this up-and-coming Syracuse venue hope to promote and showcase lesser-represented genres in the local music scene.

To get inside The Elevated Underground, you must first climb up over 20 steps toward a bright blue door, then duck down once you’re in. Next door to a park on the corner of West Onondaga Street and South Geddes Street in a quiet residential area on the Westside lies Syracuse’s best-kept music secret.

“You wouldn’t know it now, but it used to be a horror scene down here,” Dusten Blake, 25, owner of The Elevated Underground, said.

Review: Smash Season 2, Episodes 1 & 2

NBC's musical drama Smash entered its second season last week with a new show runner and the same big aspirations.

The new season of Smash returned with a two-hour episode last Tuesday which is ambitious yet feckless.

The finale of season one ended with Karen (Katharine McPhee) staring as Marilyn Monroe on stage in “Bombshell,” a musical about Monroe, while her counterpart Ivy (Megan Hilty) began taking pills after being replaced by Karen.

WHY? and Astronautalis impress Rochester crowd with nimble lyrics, hip-hop beats

Review: Alt hip-hop band WHY? played a show at Rochester's Water Street Music Hall Sunday night, supported by Astronautalis and Dream Tiger.

The promise of two alternative hip-hop acts fronted by intelligent, skinny-white-dude rappers brought a crowd of young hipsters to the Water Street Music Hall in Rochester Sunday night.

WHY? and Astronautalis, with opener Dream Tiger, didn’t disappoint on the fourth show of their two month tour, bringing all the witty lyrics, interesting beats, and weird dance moves that the audience could want.

Setnor School offers conservatory environment for music students

SU's School of Music provides a serious education for dedicated musicians of all types.

Walking up the intricately carved wooden spiral staircases in Crouse College, one can hear the faint strains of organ music. Open the doors of Setnor Auditorium and there it is: the 3,823-pipe organ donated by John Crouse that was originally built in 1889. The organ and the auditorium itself are perhaps the most recognizable assets to the Setnor School of Music, but the school is home to professors and students who are truly passionate about music.

Annual concert brings holiday season to SU

"Holidays at Hendricks" featured several well-known holiday songs including "O Holy Night," "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and "Winter Wonderland."

The chapel lights darkened as both choir and audience members held onto lit candlesticks. It was the beginning of the concert’s final song, “Silent Night,” and a favorite of Emily Cirillo.

"The lights are turned out and the chapel glows," said Cirillo, director of the Hendricks Chapel Handbell Ringers. "To me, this is when the holiday season officially begins."

It's that time of year again, when we all think about how lucky we are to live in a first world country, have a cute golden retriever, and an Aunt Lucy who makes a killer pumpkin pie. I know I'm not alone when I say that the thing that I am most thankful for is music.

Score for the Underscore of “Howard Rights His Wrongs”

The evocative music that runs through the comedic webseries is the effective result of SU student collaborations.

As bottles of Guinness and Bud Light are cleared away and a bright yellow piece of paper expands across the wooden table, fans of the web show, Howard Rights His Wrongs, can hear the theme song kick in as the episode begins.  What fans may not have known, is that the theme song along with the musical underscore, was created by Syracuse University students.
