Newhouse freshman leads FYP as 'The Wedding Singer'

SU theater group First Year Players performed its spring show in Goldstein Auditorium April 4-6.

The first weekend in April, Syracuse University First Year Players theater group performed musical The Wedding Singer with Newhouse television, radio and film freshman Zack Phillips playing the lead role of Robbie Hart.

First Year Players is a student-run musical theater organization at Syracuse University that gives non-theater majors an opportunity to perform in on Syracuse's stage. While only first-year and transfer students have the opportunity to perform in the show, other students of all ages may be a part of the production crew.

Phillips has been involved with theater since he was young, and says he was disheartened to learn that only theater major students could participate in the school's musicals.

FYP, however, was an exciting opportunity: "I found out about First Year Players, and I was really excited because it was a bunch of kids who just love to do theater, but don't want to study it," Phillips says.
He describes the organization as a family and says it was an easy way to make friends of all ages, especially as a freshman.

After months of hard work and preparation, Phillips and the rest of the cast performed for three nights from April 4 – 6 in Goldstein Auditorium.
