'Broad City' meets the Salt City

Comedy Central stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson crack up the crowd at Goldstein Auditorium.

The stars of Broad City visited the Syracuse University on Saturday to share a little about what they have learned so far in their rapidly flourishing comedy careers.

A nearly capacity Goldstein Auditorium crowd heard Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson’s perspectives on their transition from a web series to cable TV success, starting their comedy careers at Upright Citizens Brigade and deflecting constant questions about being female in a predominantly male-centric profession.

Broad City, now in its third season on Comedy Central, follows the story of two 20-something women living in New York City. The duo credited their breakthrough to networking with Amy Poehler and mentioned the stress of selling the show to FX.

At the close of Glazer and Jacobson’s talk, moderated by University Union public relations director Alli Reich, audience members were invited to ask questions of the duo.

It was in their reactions and responses that glimpses of their Broad City characters subtly surfaced such as when they were asked which celebrity squad they would most want to be part of.

Both women chose Rihanna.
