Kitty Hoynes

Kitty Hoynes isn’t your typical Irish pub, instead it boasts a small candle lit hangout that makes the perfect spot for long conversations and good laughs. Best of all, it's in the cultural epicenter of Syracuse---Armory Square.

When to Go:  At this non-assuming hide-away spot, there will be older Syracuse locals, but on the weekends, college students swing by to start the night off right.

On Tap:  The true flavor of Kitty Hoynes is in its arsenal of complex and delicious independently produced brew, like Loose Cannon Hop3 Ale from Maryland, which has a citrus aftertaste but with just enough punch in the mouth. However, the best of the lineup has to be the imported German beer, Spaten Oktoberfest from Munich. Without being too bitter or harsh, the Spaten Oktoberbest offers all you want in a light flavorful beer: Just complex enough to keep you interested but not bitter enough to make you cringe. It’s sweet, doesn’t fill you up and goes down real smooth.

Blue Plate Special: Kitty Hoynes isn’t all about the booze however.  Like any Irish pub, it has a well-stocked menu with classic Irish dishes like Irish Crisps and O’Connor Potato Skins, along with tasty burgers and other greasy plates.

The Crew: The bartenders are charming and nice, especially when the place isn't packed. If you're not sure what kind of brew you're craving, the staff on hand knows their stuff and can suggest anything you're looking for.

The Crowd: Inside, the pub has the look of an old western saloon, but without the big crowds. There's outdoor seating as well as plenty of standing room inside where you always have a good view of the game on TV. It depends when you go, but on a normal week night, you'll encounter classic local characters.

The Deets: In downtown Syracuse, Kitty Hoynes offers a quaint, warm environment with a sublime array of affordable local draught beer. The crowd comes early and stays late, so there’s never a wrong time to drink some quality beer at Kitty Hoynes. Also, if you're looking for a little more than just food and drinks, say no more: Kitty Hoynes holds trivia events on Mondays and small band performances Thursday through Saturday.
