Review: The Ithaca venue's Tuesday Bluesday and I-Town Community Jazz Jam events impress with their atmosphere.

If you’re looking for an excuse to go to Ithaca, The Dock offers weekly music nights dedicated to blues, jazz and reggae. Particularly, if you suddenly realized you care about jazz after seeing La La Land, Tuesday nights from 9 p.m. to midnight are for you — I-Town Community Jazz Jam.

Review: Psychedelic indie rockers filled the stage with music, dancers and costumes for a true night of total performance.

Of Montreal frontman Kevin Barnes is his generation’s undiscovered David Bowie.

There’s something for everyone at an Of Montreal show. Even if you’re not into watching a rock ‘n’ roll musician dress up in makeup and glitter, the music will keep anyone dancing. However, don’t bring your kids, unless you’re okay with them seeing sensual dancers, strip teases and a man dressed in an inflated penis costume.

Cornell students put down their homework to turn up for the last event in a weekend-long celebration.

A group of boys, still dressed in Cornell apparel and decorated with red face paint from the afternoon football game, sat in a circle playing cards on the brick sidewalk outside of Barton Hall at Cornell University. Behind them, a growing number of students lined up, all hoping for the chance to snag a ticket when the concert doors opened at 7 p.m.

The "This American Life" producer took the stage at the State Theatre of Ithaca to warm the hearts of frozen New Yorkers who braved the blizzard to spend Valentine's Day with him.

Despite the snow squalls, low visibility, 40 mile-per-hour-wind gusts…and oh yeah—snow squalls—my love, Ira Glass, and I were able to persevere and meet up for a romantic Valentine’s Day rendezvous at the State Theatre of Ithaca.

The venue was packed with 1,200 other people celebrating the day of love with a common passion for public radio and a nasally-voiced hottie.

Review: The red-headed singer-songwriter brought her charming pop songs to the State Theatre of Ithaca on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Ingrid Michaelson brought warmth to the snow-covered audience on Saturday at the State Theatre of Ithaca with her wit and beautiful music.

Review: Wilco's Jeff Tweedy brought his new solo project, which includes his son Spencer on drums, to the State Theate of Ithaca on Sept. 24.

It’s impossible to talk about Tweedy without mentioning familial dynamics. Because the band consists of a celebrated folk veteran in front and his son, 18, on drums, it’s easy to study their onstage movements and gestures, hoping for a glimpse of the natural warmth of their relationship.

Review: Neutral Milk Hotel frontman Jeff Mangum played a solo acoustic show supported by The Music Tapes and Tall Firs at the State Theater in Ithaca, NY on Wednesday Feb. 13.

Jeff. Muthaf-cking. Mangum.

I was sort of hoping he would suck. I really did. It might’ve knocked him back down to our level—humanize him after 15 years of standing atop the indie-rock pantheon, trying to hide from the public eye behind his beard and cap and flannel shirts.

But he didn’t suck.

Review: Despite a lively showing, the Friday night concert at The Haunt ended disappointingly.

North Carolina-based folk rockers, The Mountain Goats, played a sold-out show at Ithaca’s nightclub The Haunt on Friday, sampling songs from several records on their 14-album discography, including their latest release Transcendental Youth.

Review: The singer/songwriter returns to the stage after a three-year absence.

As the year’s first snow fell in Ithaca Thursday night, Rachael Yamagata stood on the sidewalk outside Delilah’s Lounge smoking a cigarette.

“Is it always this cold up here?” she asked. “It’s cold inside, it’s cold outside. It’s cold everywhere.”
