The Orange (4-7, 1-5 Big East) plays its final game of the 2009 season at Connecticut (5-5, 1-4) on a wet track in an NFL-size stadium before a sold-out crowd. Any chance of victory rests on the SU running game.

Syracuse football comes to a close Saturday afternoon. Halftime Snack ushers out the old and looks ahead to the new.

Orange squeeze life out of No. 25 Rutgers

The Syracuse athletics department has caught the “winning fever” from the Orange men’s basketball team. The SU football team kept the mojo flowing Saturday afternoon, shocking No. 25 Rutgers, 31-13, before 36,759 fans at the Carrier Dome.

Whiteboard Video: Delone Carter's 4th quarter TD

Halftime Snack breaks down the Orange's final score against Akron.

With a 21-14 lead at the start of the fourth quarter, the Orange took advantage of the 40-pound average advantage on the offensive line. A 53-yard run by senior running back Delone Carter gave the Orange second-and-goal from the 4-yard line. Syracuse simplified its attack, putting quarterback Greg Paulus under center (two shotgun snaps earlier in the day had gone awry) while bringing in both tight ends into the single-back formation.

Carter got the hand off, ran behind big right tackle Jonathan Muldrum into the end zone for his third rushing touchdown of the game.

Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone preaches preparation, expecting each Orange player to be ready to perform at all times.  Saturday afternoon against Akron, Marrone found out if his players were listening.

Syracuse wins game on last-second field goal.

Let the warm waters of a SU victory was over us!  The Orange pull in the first win of the Doug Marrone era in dramatic fashion as freshman Ryan Lichtenstein’s 42-yard field goal as time expired gave Syracuse a 37-34 win over visiting Northwestern Saturday evening before 40,251 fans at the Carrier Dome.

The star of Syracuse football past visits the Carrier Dome for the first time since graduation.

Many years have passed since the sounds of possibility and admiration swirled amid the Syracuse football fans exiting the Carrier Dome.

More amazing, this Saturday these sounds were after a loss.  The pre-season hype generated by the of hiring new head coach Doug Marrone even prompted former quarterback Donovan McNabb to return to his alma mater for the first time since departing for the NFL in 1999.  Hear what Super Five had to say.
