The founder of popular photo and story blog Humans of New York will speak in Goldstein Auditorium on March 6.

Brandon Stanton will appear as part of a collaboration between University Union and University Lectures, UU officials announced Sunday night in a press release. Two other notable names round out the spring University Lectures in Hendricks Chapel: Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jhumpa Lahiri on Feb.

Sarina Morales, now an on-air contributor for SportsCenter:AM, spoke on race, gender, and sports as the commemorative speaker for Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month.

She was the only girl on her baseball team. Her dream — to play centerfield for the New York Yankees.

As she gets up to bat in front of a huge crowd of people in the Bronx, most of whom have come to scope her out to see if she can really play, the opposing team sits down on the field. The opposing team didn’t believe in her, and her own team didn’t cheer her on either.

The pitcher threw her a soft toss, she took it, and she didn’t quit. She went home, cried and grew a thick skin.

Journalist Marc Lamont Hill and a panel of speakers discussed racism in response to recent police brutality, offering advice on ending discrimination toward African-Americans and all minorities.

After reporting on the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, Marc Lamont Hill was left with a graphic image of teenager Michael Brown’s dead body.

On Aug. 9, 2014, police and authorities abandoned Brown for four and a half fours, Hill said neighbors told him. It was 95 degrees outside, Hill added, and children attempted to protect Brown’s body with a sheet, but it was too short to cover both his feet and head.
