A late 7-0 run helps SU cruise to its fifth-straight victory.

On Sunday against Virginia, Syracuse took a commanding lead early in the first half and never looked back.

But against St. John's, the Orange was forced to "storm" back for its victory.

SU ripped off a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull away to a 14-6 win over the Red Storm in Kennesaw, Georgia, on Saturday. Randy Staats scored a team-high five goals, as the Orange erased an early 4-0 deficit to continue its unbeaten streak.

Henry Schoonmaker scored the winning goal 28 seconds into overtime to keep the Orange undefeated.

Almost a year ago to the day, the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team lost a heartbreaking home opener to the Albany Great Danes in double overtime. But this season, No. 1 Syracuse (2-0) would avenge that loss in about the same way No. 10 Albany (0-1) won last year.

Seniors Luke Cometti and JoJo Marasco helped the Orange outscore Rutgers, 7-1 in the fourth quarter for a 12-11 victory.

For three and a half quarters, it looked like a classic trap game.

No. 7 Syracuse (9-2, 3-1 Big East) was being outhustled, outmanned and outscored by two-win Rutgers, days after dramatic wins at No. 9 Princeton and over No. 2 Cornell.

Three thoughts on Syracuse's 13-11 win over St. John's in the Whitman's Sampler Independence Classic at PPL Park in Chester, Pa., including JoJo Marasco's five-point effort.

The Syracuse men’s lacrosse team won its first Big East game of the year in a 13-11 victory over St. John’s in the Whitman’s Sampler Independence Classic at PPL Park in Chester, Pa.

A weekly look at Syracuse sports, featuring reporters from TheNewsHouse.com — your resource for news, sports and what's happening at Syracuse University.

Taking another look at Syracuse athletics, sports producer Tyler Greenawalt and basketball writers Mark Volain and Joe Diglio decide the Orange are what they are at this point, and re-evaluate the team in the final week of the regular season.

No. 18 Syracuse employed a stringent defense and explosive first-half offense to defeat Army, 6-2.

Call it a goalkeeper’s duel, defensive effort or grind-it-out performance. The Syracuse men’s lacrosse team only cares about one thing — a win.

No. 18 Syracuse bounced back from a disastrous double-overtime loss to Albany on Feb. 17 with a 6-2 defensive-minded win against Army on Sunday at the Carrier Dome.

The game, in which both teams combine for 66 shots and 37 shots on goal, saw a completely different defensive effort from goalkeeper Bobby Wardwell and the Syracuse backline.

The Orange become the first ever Big East tournament champions with a win over St. John's.

It was another easy day for the Orange men's lacrosse team as it cruised by the St. John's Red Storm in the inaugural Big East lacrosse tournament championship. Syracuse shut down St. John's in the first half, heading into the locker room up 7-0. The second half was a lot more relaxed. The Orange got a lot of subs into the game and ended up with a 12-4 victory.

Here are my three thoughts from the game:

1. Consistency is key...

The Orange dominated Villanova on its home turf in the opening round of the Big East Tournament in Philadelphia

It was a close game for the first half of the Big East Tournament semifinal, but the back-and-forth game didn't last for long. The Orange led 6-4 at the half but a nine goal second half and a scoreless fourth quarter for the Wildcats gave Syracuse a 15-6 victory.

Here are three thoughts from the game:

1. Bobby Eilers is dangerous against a short-stick...

The Orange fall in the season-finale

The Orange came into South Bend with a chance to possibly clinch an NCAA Tournament berth. The team didn't play like it had anything to prove in the first half, going scoreless for the first two quarters of the game. After Notre Dame took a 4-0 lead into halftime, Syracuse lit a fire and came out strong in the second half. The bench was energized, the players were fighting for ground balls and the Orange looked like it could win the game. But the Fighting Irish fought off Syracuse and never let them cut the lead to less than one.

Syracuse couldn't battle back from a three-goal deficit to beat rival Georgetown in a Big East matchup

The motto for the Syracuse Orange lacrosse team this season is "head, heart, hustle." The Orange showed none of those three H's in today's 10-8 loss to Georgetown. A spotlight was shined on the team's seniors before the game, honoring the last time they took the field in the Carrier Dome. But that spotlight went out as soon as the first quarter began.
