Spider-Man's on-screen future hinges on smart studio decisions

Commentary: In order to preserve the beloved character's legacy in film, Sony, Spidey's parent company, should transfer ownership rights back to Marvel Comics.

With the announcement of the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man playing key role in that graphic storyline, much buzz has gone around about what will become of Spider-Man in terms of his involvement with Marvel and his future films.

Tribute bands find eager fans in Syracuse

Central New York is a hotbed of tribute performances, but the trend depends on where you're seeing the show.

When he’s performing on stage, musician Jon Braun isn’t himself. While dozens of rock singers might cop to the same sentiment (Bono especially), Braun’s loss of self has nothing to do with entering a trance or reaching a higher spiritual plane upon seeing 200 fans cheering him on. It’s more about playing a part.

The Thanksgiving holiday occupies that hungry space equidistant between Halloween and Christmas, the other two days reserved for overindulging in caloric excess. Sitting on the Hendricks Chapel stage, she could have been another member of Syracuse University's Xi chapter of the Omega Phi Beta sorority. Comfortable and conversational, Dascha Polanco, one of the stars of the Emmy award-winning Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black, spoke to an intimate crowd of about a hundred (mostly women) on Wednesday night.

Electricity spread throughout a packed Schine Underground as over 300 enjoyed music from Cash Cash, Julian Nelums and Almond.

Fog slipped through the doors of Schine Underground Wednesday evening as a night of electronic dance music, referred to as EDM, began. Three different acts took the stage in what turned out to be a nearly three hour-long party.

Cash Cash, the New Jersey-based EDM trio, headlined the final installment of University Union’s Bandersnatch series for the fall semester of 2014.

Saturday's video game conference drew crowds interested in playing the latest releases, creating their own games and even dressing up as their favorite characters.

The Oncenter Convention Center welcomed gamers this Saturday to the second annual RetroGameCon. The video game convention hosted panels in three rooms downstairs where expert gamers and cosplayers shared their knowledge. Upstairs, vendors displayed their products while listening to the beats of local DJ Silenze, who incorporates game sounds in his music.

Mr. Universe came to Syracuse University on Oct. 25 to talk about what he loves most: food. Comedian Jim Gaffigan performed to a sold out audience in Goldstein Auditorium as part of his national Obsessed tour.

“I love Syracuse. It’s my favorite university in the whole world, and not just because you’re paying me,” Gaffigan said to a thunderous crowd.

Review: Charismatic rapper GoldLink matched the energy of electronic DJ Trippy Turtle at the semester's first small concert at Schine Underground.

A slowly growing crowd clusters together in front of a small, dimly lit stage, the glare of neon spotlights in their eyes. A DJ puts the final touches on his onstage setup, press people mill about to the side of the stage and the excitement in the air mounts as showtime approaches.
