SU student dies unexpectedly Sunday

Justin Robinson was described as a "beautiful beautiful soul" and a "brilliant caring man" in comments on a GoFundMe page set up to help with his funeral costs.

Justin Robinson, a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences, died unexpectedly on Sunday in his hometown of Palmetto, GA, according to a Syracuse University email news release.

As an active student on campus, Robinson was involved in the Black Celestial Choral Ensemble, J.U.M.P. Nation and the Multicultural Empowerment Network, according to the release. Rebecca Reed Kantrowitz, senior vice president and dean of the Division of Student Affairs, penned the email.

BCCE and Hendricks Chapel are working together to organize a vigil in his honor, and those in need of support can contact the Counseling Center anytime at 315-443-4715, Kantrowitz said in the email. Robinson's mother, Yasmin Florence, created a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral. As of Monday at 4:00 p.m., the account had garnered $5,474 of a $10,000 goal from 203 individual donors.

"My beloved son went home to be with the Lord early this morning," Florence wrote on the crowdfunding page. "He is my shining star and had a bright future ahead of him! I was so proud of him for pursuing his dreams at Syracuse University, while awaiting his graduation for May 2016."
