Comedian Chelsea Handler to discuss gender, equality issues at SU

A New York Times reporter will interview the activist celebrity and activist at Goldstein Auditorium on April 5.

Comedian, author and activist Chelsea Handler will speak at Goldstein Auditorium as part of the “Get With The Times” series, a provocative live conversation series for college students. Hosted by The New York Times, in collaboration with University Union, this event will be at 8 p.m. on April 5 and broadcast live to watch parties at college campuses across the country.

Handler is most popular for her talk shows, stand-up comedy and books. After an eight-year stint of hosting E’s Chelsea Lately, she launched her Netflix show, Chelsea. Handler is credited with five best-selling books, including My Horizontal Life (2005), Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea (2008), Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang (2010), Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me (2011), and Uganda Be Killing Me (2014). Time magazine named Handler as one of the 100 most influential people on its annual Time 100 list in 2012.

Also, Handler has used her platform for activism. She has partnered with EMILY’s List, an American political action committee, to help elect more women to public office and support candidates who fight for women’s reproductive rights. Handler will be interviewed by New York Times investigative reporter Megan Twohey, one of the two Times journalists that broke last year’s story on sexual harassment allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

Tickets for Get With The Times: Fearlessly Forward with Chelsea Handler will go on sale March 21 at the Schine Student Center box office. They are $5 for students, and $10 for faculty and staff. Tickets will not be on sale for the general public. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m.
