No. 5 Syracuse began regular season play with a dramatic 3-2 overtime win over Ohio State on Friday in the opening game of the Buckeye Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
The Orange (1-0) were led by goals from senior Jordan Page and junior co-captain Emma Russell, whose tally in extra time sealed the win.
Page opened up the scoring in the 33rd minute with her first goal since 2012.
Junior Alyssa Manley, a 2013 All-ACC Second Team selection, scored early in the second half, giving Syracuse a two-goal lead.
The Orange held Ohio State (0-1) scoreless until the 53rd minute. But shortly after Kaitlyn Wagner broke the shutout, Peanut Johnson scored off an assist from Maddy Humphrey to tie the game at two.
Neither team could convert the rest of the way, setting up Russell's overtime heroics.
After replacing Lauren Brooks in the 76th minute, Russell shoveled her own rebound past OSU's Liz Tamburro to cap an otherwise dominant performance. Syracuse outshot Ohio State 37-11 in total.
The Orange will continue its tour of Ohio Saturday at 4 p.m. against Miami (Ohio) in Columbus.
