Four SU students woke up to a loud crash and found a car embedded into their front porch. The driver fled the scene after the accident. This is a first-hand account of the incident.

Car crashed into our porch. DO NOT COME IN THE FRONT. Use the side door.

That’s the text message I received Friday morning from my roommate, advertising master's student Gareth Lim. Needless to say, I was surprised and more than a little confused. For some reason, the first thing that popped into my head was that time on Everybody Loves Raymond when Raymond’s parents crash their car into his house.

A student, a friend, an architect ... and a transgender, Bryan McKinney opens up about his transition experience.

Bryan McKinney is a fourth-year architecture student at Syracuse University. He holds a job at Shaw Dining Hall and is involved in organizations on campus. And he is transgender.

“Defining my gender’s always tough,” McKinney said. “Just a one word answer, it would be male, but that doesn't wholly sit right with me because that denies my history.”

Since he has been at SU, McKinney has been an active member of the LGBTQ community.

Budding Newhouse School documentarians reflect on their music-filled adventure in Mozambique.

Before June 2011, Mike Armour, a Syracuse University television, radio and film senior, had never crossed the Atlantic Ocean.

Armour's high school buddy, Josh Eisenfield, also a television, radio and film senior, had an idea to film a documentary in Mozambique about a local band who uses music to educate the masses on hygiene and water sanitation. Eisenfield envisioned Armour as someone he could both trust and put up with for the 35-day adventure.

Throughout the evening, the environmentalist and author shared personal stories that helped her find her own voice.

Conservationist and environmental scientist professor at Dartmouth College, Terry Tempest Williams, closed out this year's University Lectures series with a conversation on finding one's voice, as well as her perceptions of America and the world in the past, present and future.

Williams' presentation, titled "The Writer as Witness," was held Thursday evening in Hendricks Chapel. It was formatted as a conversation with Syracuse University geography professor Don Mitchell.

Musician Rachel Lynn and the Satan's Closet improv group entertain a full house in downtown Syracuse.

The audience cheered as Ken Keech and his improv group, Satan's Closet, came out onto the stage Friday night. At the end of every month, Keech and other performers collaborate with the Syracuse Improv Collective to put on a show for Central New York comedy fans. 

"[I'm] always expecting a good show, always looking forward to getting together with my friends and being joyful on stage," Keech, an adviser at a local alternative high school, said. "It's a great time."

Home plate was near the 50-yard line, field goal posts were used as foul poles, and bases were mounted into the turf of Ernie Davis Legends Field for the first ever softball game in the Carrier Dome on Friday night.

"It was so much fun, great energy in here," head coach Leigh Ross said. "The girls were extra excited to have so many fans here."

Jonathan Franzen, a National Book Award-winning author, spoke at Hendricks Chapel on Tuesday night as the first speaker of the spring semester in the University Lecture series.

A bald, middle-aged man looked up from his newspaper with a start, his eyes magnified by lenses that look like portholes.

“Cornel West is also speaking tonight?” he said to the woman beside him. “Shoot, I like him.”

The woman folded her wrinkled hands on her copy of The Corrections. “I like Franzen,” she said.

After she released her first album, Vertical Lines, Syracuse University student and singer Sarah Aument showed no signs of slowing down.

Review: Asher Roth joins a motley crew of openers at The Westcott Theater to celebrate a Syracuse basketball win against South Florida on Wednesday.

With notably less ceremony than many of the artists who performed before him, Asher Roth finally walked onto The Westcott Theater stage a few minutes after Jamie Drastik left.

“I think it’s time I play the hits,” Asher Roth told a cheering crowd happy to finally see him.
