Lake effect. Orange pride. Salt potatoes. Wegmans. These are the terms that my eager family instilled in me upon learning that my alma mater would be Syracuse University, located in the very place that both sides of my lineage sprout from. As an Arizonian accustomed to readily available Mexican food and sprawling acres of saguaro cacti under open, dry skies, even the idea of snow was foreign to me. I cherished these new additions to my lexicon with excitement and care, looking forward to the day they would no longer feel strange rolling off my tongue.

Modern Malt is not just a typical diner. As it's name implies, it puts a modern twist on some of America's most loved foods. If you order a grilled cheese, expect to find apples inside. In the mood for French toast? Modern Malt serves them coated in Fruity Pebbles. This is all thanks to Executive Chef Anthony Donofrio, who has been the creative mind behind the menu since the restaurant opened just over two years ago.

Valentine's Day is the annual reminder of love, and that love isn't necessarily limited to another individual.

As several of our digital reporters discovered in their quest to find expressions of love, human passions extend to animals, activities and themselves.

Women's Club Gymnastics captain talks life as a gymnast

Lifelong gymnast Lauren Woolhiser chats with The NewsHouse about what it takes to be competitive collegiate gymnast.

Lauren Woolhiser can’t remember a time before she tumbled. After attending a parent-taught gymnastics class when she was four and promptly deciding she could perform the skills alone, the gym became her second home. “I fell in love with the sport as soon as I walked into the gym. It was all I ever talked about,” said Woolhiser, now the captain of Syracuse Club Gymnastics.

Syracuse Black Celestial Choral Ensemble sees one another as family

The Syracuse Black Celestial Choral Ensemble has fostered a sense of unity in the campus community, impacting its members beyond their musical performances.

To many members of the Syracuse University community, the Black Celestial Choral Ensemble (BCCE) is another musical group. But to 2016 Class Marshal Tatiana Williams and its other members, it's more than just a group that gathers to perform. She views the bond that BCCE members share as something very unique on campus.

"BCCE is my family. We're a choir, but before being a choir, we're a family," Williams said.

SU gets revenge over conference foe Boston College in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, 1-0

The last time No. 6 Syracuse lost a game was on October 30th in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. It was the regular season finale for the Orange against the Boston College Eagles. BC scored two first-half goals and Syracuse couldn’t overcome the deficit, falling 2-1. This time around things would be different.

Twenty-somethings turn passion for pizza into an app and philanthropic cause

Max Hellerstein and Cyrus Summerlin, who created the app Push for Pizza in 2013, stopped at Syracuse University on an 80 college tour to promote the application and encourage students to download it and incorporate it into their lives.

High school friends Cyrus Summerlin and Max Hellerstein have always loved pizza.

Both just 20-years-old, the two combined different slices of experiences over a year and a half to create the iPhone App, Push for Pizza - whose slogan is "the simplest way to order pizza from your favorite pizzeria."

The name gives it away. A user decides what topping they want on their pizza, the image of the topping pops up on the screen, the credit card information is synced, and the pizza is on the way.

Vice President Joe Biden brought his fight to end violence against women to Goldstein Auditorium on Thursday.

Vice President Joe Biden addressed students in Goldstein Auditorium on Thursday as part of the It’s On Us Week of Action to end sexual assault on college campuses. He talked about his experiences on Capitol Hill fighting to end violence against women and said it was the responsibility of the community to stop it.

In a world of easily accessible digital music, listening to a vinyl record can be seen as either for older generations or contrarians. The format has seen a resurgence in recent years, but it still carries the mark of an item reserved for only serious collectors and aficionados. To the uninitiated, vinyl records can seem mysterious and a little intimidating.
