A chronic hip injury has ended the fifth-year senior's Orange tenure.

Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer was full of optimism during Saturday's football media day at Manley Field House, but he did have one piece of bad news to report.

Senior kicker Ross Krautman will miss the entire 2014 season because of a lingering hip injury, Shafer announced during his opening press conference.

Syracuse and its former Big East rival will square off on Dec. 6.

Syracuse has added another opponent to its 2014-15 schedule, and the name is one very familiar to Orange fans.

SU will welcome former conference foe St. John's to the Carrier Dome on Dec. 6 in the second contest of a home-and-home series announced last year, according to a release from Syracuse Athletics. The meeting will be the 89th overall between the two squads.

Syracuse head football coach sets season goal of eight victories during ESPN visit Monday.

Syracuse clawed its way to a bowl game last season, the school's first in the ACC, but head coach Scott Shafer is expecting even more in 2014.

Shafer joined Florida State's Jimbo Fisher, Louisville's Bobby Petrino and four other ACC coaches as part of ESPN's mid-summer "car wash" on Monday. The annual event invites coaches from around the country to appear across multiple platforms at the network's Bristol, Conn., headquarters.

The Orange will prepare for the 2014-15 season with home tilts against both schools.

Syracuse continues to await its full schedule for the 2014-15 season, but the Orange's final tune-ups are officially set.

According to Syracuse Athletics, Jim Boeheim and Co. will take the court for two exhibition games in the Carrier Dome on Nov. 2 and 10 against Carleton (Canada) and Adrian (Mich.), respectively.

The AHL squad will battle the Utica Comets in the Carrier Dome's first ice hockey game on Nov. 22.

Carrier Dome managing director Peter Sala has joked that his venue is football stadium that thinks it's a hockey rink.

But this November, it will be an actual ice hockey rink for the first time.

At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Syracuse Crunch owner Howard Dolgon announced that his team will take on the Utica Comets inside the Carrier Dome as part of the Frozen Dome Classic on Nov. 22.

The long-time Big East foes have agreed to a four-year, home-and-home series starting in 2015-16.

On Feb. 23, 2013, more than 35,000 fans packed the Carrier Dome to see Georgetown invade Jim Boeheim Court for one final time in Big East play.

But apparently not even conference realignment can keep the Orange and Hoyas apart.

Two Friday games and a date with the defending national champions highlight the home slate.

On Tuesday, Syracuse Athletics released the full 2014 schedule for the Syracuse University football team. SU is preparing for its second season as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Orange will host a pair of Friday night games: the season-opener against Villanova on Aug. 29 and a Big East reunion with Louisville on Oct. 3 in the team's first ACC matchup. The latter will be televised by ESPN.

After allowing three early goals, Syracuse stormed past Boston College, 11-9, and into the final four.

Through nearly 17 minutes of play in Saturday's NCAA quarterfinal at the Carrier Dome, the normally-explosive Syracuse offense had mustered only one shot and no goals. With Boston College holding a 3-0 advantage, the Orange needed some kind of spark.

It got one from Katie Webster, and then the flood gates opened.
