University Union announced Wednesday night that A$AP Ferg will headline this year's Mayfest celebration in Walnut Park on April 25. The Harlem-born rapper will perform along with DJ AraabMUZIK and Rochester-based indie-pop band, Joywave, for the end-of-school-year celebration.
The music kicks off at 1 p.m. and will lead into UU's Block Party at the Carrier Dome, which features Zedd and rapper 2 Chainz. UU also has tapped colorful rapper Danny Brown for a Schine Underground concert April 2.
A$AP Ferg, otherwise known as Donald Ferguson, is a member of the A$AP hip-hop collective, made famous by leader A$AP Rocky. Ferg's first single, "Work," launched on the collective's debut album, Lords Never Worry. The following year, Ferg released his full-length album, Trap Lord, featuring hit single "Shabba."
Joining Ferg on the Mayfest stage will be hip-hop/trance DJ AraabMUZIK. Born Abraham Orellana, AraabMUZIK is best known for his 2013 album, The Remixes Vol. 1, which includes remixes of well-known tracks by Skrillex, Steve Aoki and more.
Rounding out the performances is Rochester-based indie-pop Joywave. Their single, "Tongues," is off their 88888 mixtape, released in 2013.
Mayfest is free to all Syracuse University and State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry undergraduate students. Graduate student and guest tickets are $22 and available at the Schine Student Center box office beginning Thursday at 10 a.m.
