Well, the rumors were half true.
Rapper Travis Scott will headline University Union’s Block Party event in the Carrier Dome April 28. The “Antidote” rapper will be joined by electronic act ZHU and English electronic music duo AlunaGeorge.
Pre-sale tickets for students went on sale April 10, at $25 for floor and $20 for first and second tier seats. Tickets for the general public will cost $40.
Rumors originally circulated that Block Party’s headliners would be the virally famous hip-hop trio Migos, known best for hits like “Bad & Boujee” with Lil Uzi Vert and “T-Shirt” off their album Culture.
Travis Scott rose to fame rapidly atop the success of “Antidote,” which release on the 2015 album Rodeo. “Antidote” itself is certified double platinum in the United States, and has received over 180 million streams on the Spotify platform. The platinum-certified “goosebumps” featuring Kendrick Lamar is currently dominating the radio for the Houston native, off 2016 album Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight.
ZHU began his career with relative anonymity, but subsequently bursted onto the electronic scene with lead single “Faded” off the 2014 EP The Nightday. That song was nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards in 2015. It eventually lost to the radio hit “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne. His most recent single, “Nightcrawler,” released March 2017.
AlunaGeorge, a duo made up of Aluna Francis and George Reid, met in 2009 and released one of their first singles “You Know You Like It” in 2012. That song, off 2013 album Body Music, peaked at No. 39 in the UK Singles Chart. That was before French hitmaker DJ Snake got his hands on it, and that remix ended up certified double platinum in the United States.
ZHU and AlunaGeorge have an extensive history together, having collaborated on two records. They first teamed up on an upbeat house track titled “Automatic” on ZHU’s 2015 EP Genesis Series. They then joined forces for “My Blood,” a record that is more hip-hop or trap oriented on AlunaGeorge’s 2016 album I Remember.
