Notre Dame

January 29, 2016 - 11:13am
Syracuse's explosive 23-1 run starting two minutes into the first half allowed them to coast to a dominant victory.

The No. 25 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (14-6) scored the first five points of the game while keeping the Syracuse Orange (14-8) off the board for the first two minutes and twenty-four seconds. Soon after, however, Syracuse became almost unstoppable, going on a 23-1 run that didn’t see the Fighting Irish score a field goal for four minutes and 51 seconds. Syracuse maintained at least a double-digit lead from then on en route to a dominating 81-66 victory.

The junior has now suffered two ACL injuries within the past 10 months.

No. 21 Syracuse, off to a 10-4 start, will be without star guard Brittney Sykes for the rest of the season, according to a release by Syracuse Athletics on Tuesday.

Sykes, who left Sunday’s game against No. 4 Notre Dame, re-aggravated her surgically repaired ACL after originally tearing it last March in the first round of the NCAA tournament. She made her season debut on Dec. 28 and played in only three games this season.

One receiver hits a new milestone, while a new coordinator rejuvenates the SU offense.

Record Breakers

Florida State wide receiver Rashad Greene had six catches against Syracuse on Saturday, but one of them had added significance.

With his fifth catch of the game in the third quarter, Greene set a new school record with 213 career receptions, passing the previous mark set by Ron Sellers in 1968.

Greene has also caught a pass in 35 consecutive games and is only four behind Rodney Smith's program record.

SU forced five turnovers, but mustered only 15 points at MetLife Stadium on Saturday evening.

Through the first quarter, Syracuse matched up with Notre Dame as well as any team had during the 2014 season.

Unfortunately for the Orange, there was still 45 minutes of play.

On a humid Saturday night in front of 76,802 fans, the largest crowd ever for a college football game at MetLife Stadium, the Orange sputtered midway through its contest with the No. 8 Fighting Irish and fell 31-15.

Despite 10 corner opportunities in the latter frame, SU fails to overcome late Irish goal.

In front of a record crowd of 2,442 at SU Soccer Stadium on Friday, No. 20 Syracuse looked to avenge last year’s 3-0 shutout at the hands of defending national champion Notre Dame.

Games against Notre Dame, North Carolina highlight home lineup.

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its complete women's basketball schedule for the 2014-15 season Tuesday morning, according to Syracuse Athletics.

Syracuse, which enters its second season in the ACC, will play 16 conference games. Eight of those will be held at the Carrier Dome.

The Orange opens conference play on Jan. 4 in the Dome against 2014 national finalist Notre Dame. Seven total games will come against opponents from last season's NCAA Tournament field.

May 22, 2014 - 12:58pm
Two Friday games and a date with the defending national champions highlight the home slate.

On Tuesday, Syracuse Athletics released the full 2014 schedule for the Syracuse University football team. SU is preparing for its second season as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Orange will host a pair of Friday night games: the season-opener against Villanova on Aug. 29 and a Big East reunion with Louisville on Oct. 3 in the team's first ACC matchup. The latter will be televised by ESPN.

February 3, 2014 - 1:38pm
The Orange received all 65 first-place votes after defeating Duke Saturday and after Arizona lost to California.

After Cal's Justin Cobb's nailed a game-winner jumper with a second left on the clock against then-No. 1 Arizona Saturday, the nation had already crowned it's new No. 1 team: Syracuse. Hours removed from a dramatic overtime victory over Duke, the Orange (21-0, 8-0 ACC) became one of only two undefeated teams in the nation, joining Wichita Sate (23-0).

January 22, 2014 - 5:44pm
After winning its third bowl game in four years, Syracuse will play some of the best teams in 2013, including Florida State, Louisville and Duke in the Carrier Dome.

The Orange look to build off a solid 2013 football campaign with a pretty tough 2014 schedule.

After year that saw 11 Atlantic Coast Conference (12 if your count the impending inclusion of Louisville in 2014) play in bowl games, the Orange face eight of them next season, according to the SU Athletic Department

SU plays its season opener against former Big East rival Villanova on Saturday August 30 in the Carrier Dome.

November 7, 2013 - 6:19pm
The Orange are 2-2-1 over the last five games and have failed to produce much on offense. But if SU wins Friday, it will go into the ACC tournament an 11-6-1 record.

When Syracuse defeated the Clemson Tigers for its biggest victory to date, there wasn’t too much time to celebrate. The Orange (10-6-1) needed to immediately prepare for at least one final road trip against Wake Forest.

A win is necessary to keep its chances of reaching the ACC Tournament. The top eight teams in the regular season will advance to the conference tournament. The Demon Deacons (8-4-5), meanwhile, have already clinched a spot in the postseason and currently hold the third seed in the conference.
