The Orange women's lacrosse team rallied late, but couldn't overcome a slow start against the Terrapins in a 15-12 loss.

TOWSON, Md. — Syracuse attack Alyssa Murray sounded hopeful on Friday evening, talking about how she had been there before. She remembered how awful it felt two years ago when the Orange fell to Northwestern in the national championship.

This year was supposed to be different, but a familiar foe had other ideas.

TOWSON, Md. — Senior attack Alyssa Murray remembers all too well the feeling of losing in the national championship game, as Syracuse did in 2012 to Northwestern. So once the Orange played its way to a third-consecutive championship weekend, she remained more determined than ever to help the team return home with a title.

On Friday, she came one step closer to accomplishing her goal.

After allowing three early goals, Syracuse stormed past Boston College, 11-9, and into the final four.

Through nearly 17 minutes of play in Saturday's NCAA quarterfinal at the Carrier Dome, the normally-explosive Syracuse offense had mustered only one shot and no goals. With Boston College holding a 3-0 advantage, the Orange needed some kind of spark.

It got one from Katie Webster, and then the flood gates opened.

Sparked by Alyssa Murray's four goals, the Orange women's lacrosse team posted a 13-6 victory over the Seawolves.

On May 3 against Loyola, Alyssa Murray's late-game heroics propelled Syracuse to a victory.

But on Sunday, it was her hot start that put SU ahead for good.

Alyssa Murray scored eight points on four goals and four assists, while Liz Harbeson sealed the victory over Loyola in overtime.

The No. 2 Syracuse women’s lacrosse team completed a late comeback, defeating the No. 20 Loyola Greyhounds 14-12 in overtime.

“It was a great senior day for us and fun to be a part of,” head coach Gary Gait said.

In its last home game of the season, late game heroics from a pair of seniors helped SU overcome a three-goal deficit late in the second half. As the NCAA Tournament selection looms Sunday evening, Gait put a strong emphasis on the way the game played out.

The Great Danes kept it close throughout, but scoring from Treanor helped seal the victory.

In a match-up between two of the top offenses in the country, No. 3 Syracuse (11-1) clinched a 13-11 victory over No.18/17 Albany (9-1) at the Carrier Dome Tuesday night.

“We hung around, we didn’t give up, we took care of finishing the game at the end and that was key. “ Head Coach Gary Gait said. “I think Albany played very inspired and really gave us a tough game.”

Syracuse pulled away late in the first half and extended its lead throughout the contest to push past Northwestern, 11-7.

No. 3 Syracuse (9-1) edged No. 7/8 Northwestern (4-3) 11-7 Sunday afternoon at the Carrier Dome and earned its first victory over the Wildcats in 11 meetings to improve its record to 9-1.

“No matter what players they have on the field they know how to win,” Alyssa Murray said. “I think that’s very telling of our team this year. We were able to dig deep and even though they came out and scored two quick ones on us, we were able to bounce back from that and make a good run on them to close out the game.”

The No. 3 Orange scored 10 goals in the first half in the 17-4 win to improve to 8-1 on the year.

Kailah Kempney scored on a free position shot seven minutes into the first half to cap off a 5-0 run to open the game for the Orange. That set the tone for the remainder of the game as No. 3 Syracuse (8-1) rolled to a 17-4 victory over Harvard (3-4) Tuesday night in the Carrier Dome.
