The Orange contained the Minnesota offense and did not allow a 100-yard rusher for the 13th-straight game. But it was the touchdown from Hunt in the last minute of the game that sealed the win.

It was another defensive battle for Syracuse in Houston as the Orange pulled out a fourth quarter win over Minnesota on Friday, beating the Gophers 21-17 at the 2013 Texas Bowl to remain perfect in its two bowl games ever played in Texas.

“Well you know they say, ‘Don’t mess with Texas,’ well ‘Don’t mess with Syracuse in Texas,’ is what we say,” said Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer jokingly after the game.

Tyler Ennis dominated the first half to give the Orange a big lead, but C.J. Fair finished strong to push Syracuse past St. John's.

Playing at Madison Square Garden for the first time since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Orange was able to pull out a 66-61 victory over former Big East foe, St. John’s. SU finished with a 10-3 scoring run to end the game, thanks to the hot hands of senior C.J. Fair and freshman Tyler Ennis.

Despite a slow start to the game, SU cruised to its eight straight win this season, thanks to the performances of C.J. Fair, Trevor Cooney, Jerami Grant and Ron Patterson.

Syracuse defeated Binghamton 93-65 Saturday night in a game that saw production from old and new faces. C.J. Fair paced the No. 4 Orange (9-0) with 19 points, followed by Trevor Cooney, who poured in 17. But freshman Ron Patterson provided an unexpected contribution, scoring a career-high 10 points.

Syracuse used a few big runs to pull away from Indiana in a rematch of last year's Sweet Sixteen game.

If it wasn’t known before it should be made official now: Syracuse-Indiana basketball is a true out-of-conference rivalry. In a rematch of last season’s Sweet Sixteen match-up, the two schools slugged it out in the early going in Tuesday night’s contest, but the Orange was able to pull away in the second half to secure a 69-52 victory.

The Orange won 34-31 in a back-and-forth game that ended with last second-touchdown from quarterback Terrel Hunt.

Syracuse will remember the 2013 football season as one riddled with missed opportunities, close losses and blowout ones, too.

But it will also be remembered for the final 34-31 come-from-behind victory over Boston College Saturday at the Carrier Dome, catapulting the Orange into bowl-eligibility.

At 5-5 on the year, Syracuse needed one win to become eligible for a BCS bowl game. But injuries and a sputtering offense derailed the Orange in a 17-16 loss.

When Syracuse's first drive against Pittsburgh started, the offensive line's run block looked strong. The Orange's first series lasted only ending with a 36-yard run by Jerome Smith in the first three minutes.

But then Sean Hickey went down with an injury and left the game, and the offensive attack began unraveling.

The Orange went on a 10-0 run in the final few minutes of Monday night's match-up with St. Francis to remained undefeated on the season.

A collective sigh of relief exhaled from the Carrier Dome when C.J. Fair knocked down the second of his two free throws to seal the 56-50 victory for No. 9/7 Syracuse (4-0) over St. Francis Brooklyn (2-2). The Orange offense struggled mightily throughout the game against the physical defense of the Terriers.

“You can still play physical defense and I thought they did a good job of that,” Head Coach Jim Boeheim said.

The Orange came away with the victory, but committed 25 personal fouls. New NCAA rules regarding contact are being enforced this season, causing the Orange to adjust its game.

There are lessons learned from every game, said Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim. In the Orange’s 89-74 win over Fordham, it was dealing with the NCAA’s new rules regarding fouls.

“If they’re going to call fouls, you’ve got to be able to play without fouling,” Boeheim said.

November 9, 2013 - 9:18pm
The Orange defense did not give up a touchdown for the second straight week in hard-fought 20-3 victory.

On its first possession Saturday against Maryland, Syracuse marched down the field, burning nearly eight minutes off the clock. Running back Jerome Smith capped off the 16-play, 80-yard drive by plowing into the end zone for the game’s first score.

November 8, 2013 - 11:45pm
Cooney made 7-of-8 from behind the arc to help the Orange win its first game of the season.

Syracuse defeated Cornell 82-60 in its season opener tonight behind a stellar shooting performance from Trevor Cooney. The redshirt sophomore led all scorers with a career-high 27 points, shooting 10-for-12 from the field, including 7-for-8 from three-point range.

“We did a good job of finding Trevor and he bailed us out when we really needed him in the first half when we had nothing,” Head Coach Jim Boeheim said.
