We scoured the SU neighborhood looking for some of the area's best-kept secrets.

Most people familiar with Syracuse University can find their way to the Dome or the bookstore, but do you know where to find Samrat Indian Restaurant? How about that the campus's only full-service restaurant that accepts SUpercards? Can you find the University Archives? Do you know which club to join if you want to learn some new dance moves?

We set out to find some of the campus' best kept secrets.

Marion Nestle said the government needs to create more legislation to take control of and regulate the country's agriculture

Marion Nestle thinks the United States should overhaul its food regulation policies.

“You can’t understand anything about food in America, or anything else in the world, without understanding how the agriculture system works,” said Nestle.

A documentary about the 1988 bombing that killed 35 SU students premiered Wednesday night as part of the annual Remembrance Week.

In the dark, the only light from a screen fell on pensive faces and teary eyes. Students gathered Wednesday at the Kittredge Auditorium in Huntington Beard Crouse Hall to memorialize a tragedy that happened 24 years ago.

Once all the seats in the Hergenhan Auditorium were filled, the enormous level of interest in USA Today’s CEO Forum was apparent when students unsuccessfully attempted to sit on the aisle stairs to view the session.

He’s physically imposing and powerfully built at well over six feet tall. Add to that the uniform and gun, and Cpl. Joe Shanley of Syracuse University’s Department of Public Safety can come across as an intimidating figure.

Until he opens his mouth, that is.

350.org founder Bill McKibben spoke at Hendricks Chapel Wednesday night about global climate change.

Bill McKibben started his lecture with a joke.

“The Dalai Lama is a hard act to follow,” he said, garnering some laughter from the crowd.

But McKibben was greeted with a sea of audience members who packed into Hendricks Chapel Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. to see him speak as part of the first Syracuse University 2012-13 University Lectures series.

Activists challenged attendees to become more aware and concerned with international issues in order to achieve world peace.

Understand. Educate. Connect.

These were the three things that “Shifting the Global Consciousness” panelists urged audience members to do on a daily basis.

“These are not questions of the morality of something, these are questions of our own survival,” said the Dalai Lama.

The panel took place Monday, Oct. 8 at 1:30 p.m. in Goldstein Auditorium and was part of a two-day forum which aims to bring in humanitarian leaders to discuss what it means to work toward achieving global peace.
