DPS, SPD and Carrier Dome security are working together to create a secure environment for the Dalai Lama's visit to Syracuse University next week.

While Syracuse University awaits His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s appearance on campus next week, extensive security planning from campus, local, and state police continue to work to make his trip possible.

“There’s an overall security plan,” said Department of Public Safety Associate Chief John Sardino. “And those who are working it know it and there’s continuity there. But there are different aspects that each agency is taking care of.”

Orientation is over and classes have started at Syracuse University.

It was a lonely summer for the Syracuse University quad, but now that classes have rolled around, the familiar sight of students walking across campus in their best outifts is back. 

A lot happened in Syracuse while the students were away, but they didn't miss a beat, picking up where they left off in the spring.

More than 2,000 students and Syracuse community members helped Relay for Life raise more than $149,000 for cancer research in the Carrier Dome on April 14.

It seems in today’s world, it is nearly impossible to find someone that has not been affected by cancer. Whether it be a family member, a friend or an acquaintance, millions of lives have been touched by the disease. 

Syracuse University students and members of the Syracuse community came out April 14 to fight back against cancer in the 10th annual Relay for Life.

Social media has emerged as a dominant force in society. Everywhere we turn there are examples of sites like Twitter and Facebook being used in new and innovative ways.

Over the years, Syracuse University's changing logo reflects a desire to find a brand that will stand out from the rest.

If you don’t like the weather in Syracuse, just wait a few minutes for it to change. Some might argue the same could be said about the Syracuse University logo.

“Most professional and college teams have some kind of history of logo evolution,” said Marc Donabella, Associate Director of athletics and of marketing at Syracuse University.

“There are many factors that affect marketing trends and as technology and the way consumers view your logo evolve, so must the brand,” he added.

The dirty details of Syracuse University's dining hall waste and where food scraps go.

New compost bins in the dining centers around campus put Syracuse University high on the list of sustainable universities, said Assistant Director of Food Services Mark Tewksbury.

The dining halls installed them during spring break. Now there are compost bins in the disposal areas for students finishing their meals.

“We’ve had a trash removal service since the beginning of time here,” Tewksbury said. “We thought if we could divert anything from the waste stream, it would be better than sending it to the incinerator.”

Hillary Clinton addressed a packed Hendricks Chapel on Monday afternoon with her speech on foreign policy.

It was a busy Monday morning for the top leaders at the White House. Vice President Joe Biden gave a speech on restoration on the Everglades. President Barack Obama delivered a speech at the Holocaust Museum.

And Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Syracuse University.

Clinton was on campus to speak to political science students and participate in a foreign policy discussion in speech titled “America and the World” at Hendricks Chapel.
