Visiting acrobatic dance company fuses wide influences with a creative artistic experience.

Here, artists are considered to be weirdos.

At least that’s how Diavolo Dance Theater’s Jacques Heim sees it.

“I come from Europe, and the arts are exactly as important as brushing your teeth,” the company’s artistic director said. “In North America, to be completely honest,” with a glance over his shoulder and a lowered voice he continued, “it doesn’t really exist.”

But Heim made it his mission to help change that.

Review: Rising rappers A$AP Rocky, ScHoolboy Q's frenzied performance electrifies Goldstein Auditorium Friday night.

You’d think students would be packed like sardines inside Schine with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., an hour and a half before co-headliners A$AP Rocky and ScHoolboy Q took the stage Friday night for the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s concert, but well after 8:15 p.m. most students just staggered in.

Review: The folk-punk band mixes old and new tracks for an engaged Schine Underground crowd.

If you didn’t know about Titus Andronicus’ lo-fi folk-punk fusion, the sight of Syracuse University students' head banging might’ve been a jarring visual.

Review: The indie-rock band riles the crowd at Schine Underground Wednesday night

It’s always a tough crowd at the Schine Underground. Review: Syracuse Stage's production of the Tony Award-winning play features an engaging duo and vibrant atmosphere.

“What do you see?”

With this question painter Mark Rothko, played by Joseph Graves, invited the audience into his Bowery studio Saturday evening at Syracuse Stage.  He asked for their participation. Their time. He asked that they think.

Review: Cults, The Vanderbuilts successfully open University Union's first Bandersnatch show of the semester with enthusiastic brand of indie-rock.

Pulling off a successful performance in Syracuse’s Schine Underground isn’t easy. Even a talented act must face the threat of questionable acoustics and indifferent student audiences. Luckily, Cults and the Vanderbuilts overcame both obstacles with the artistic finesse of bands well-versed in small-venue performances.

“We played our first show here,” Vanderbuilts frontman Sam Kogon told the crowd between songs.

Review: Asher Roth joins a motley crew of openers at The Westcott Theater to celebrate a Syracuse basketball win against South Florida on Wednesday.

With notably less ceremony than many of the artists who performed before him, Asher Roth finally walked onto The Westcott Theater stage a few minutes after Jamie Drastik left.

“I think it’s time I play the hits,” Asher Roth told a cheering crowd happy to finally see him.

Review: Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad channels their inner Grateful Dead in their groovy set Saturday night at The Westcott Theater.

Although the lineups for some of everyone’s favorite festivals -- Coachella, Bonnarroo and Sasquatch! -- have been revealed, the blustery Syracuse weather reminds us that festival season is still yonder. Rochester-based Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad attempted to bring that festival atmosphere to The Westcott Theater Saturday night with their self-proclaimed "relentless reggae" sound.
