On Saturday afternoon the No. 2 ranked Syracuse basketball team hoisted the Big East regular season championship trophy on the court in the Carrier Dome. On Monday afternoon Yahoo! Sports published a story that claims the school has failed to comply with its internal drug policy and has played ineligible players.
The story, which was written by Charles Robinson and Pat Forde, cites a three-month investigation where four sources told the outlet that at least 10 players since 2001 have tested positive for a banned substance or multiple substances and yet, still played for the team. The story also cites, that a fifth source who used to play for the basketball team, said he was questioned by the NCAA regarding the school's drug testing policy.
No sources are named in the story, but head coach Jim Boeheim is quoted.
The team itself is 30-1 for the first time in program history but is still surrounded by the recent sexual abuse allegations against former assitant coach Bernie Fine.
Earlier this season, sophomore center Fab Melo missed three games due to academic reasons. On Monday he was named the Big East's Defensive Player of the Year.
