Syracuse men still reign as ski champs in Central New York

At the SU Invitational at the Toggenburg Mountain Winter Sports Center, the men's team places first in the final regular season event for the Mideast Conference Empire Division.

The Syracuse University Ski Racing Club (SUSRC) hosted the SU Invitational this past weekend at the Toggenburg Mountain Winter Sports Center in Fabius, N.Y.

It was the final regular season event for the Mideast Conference Empire Division as part of the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association. On Saturday, skiers participated in slalom, while the giant slalom was held Sunday.

The SU men’s team placed first, while the women’s team came in second place at the seven-team event. Other schools participating included Cornell University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Rochester, and two State University of New York institutions, SUNY Geneseo and SUNY Buffalo.

Next up for SUSRC is a trip to Bristol, N.Y., where the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships will be held on Feb. 24-25.

“I was very happy with how our team performed this weekend,” said SUSRC president C.J. Pierro in an email. “We had a lot of solid skiing from both our men’s and women’s teams, and I’m happy we are able to go into the regional championships with some momentum.”
