In a passing conversation last week, a friend of mine mentioned that Vertical Horizon was coming to Syracuse. My mind jumped back almost a decade.
I distinctly remembered hearing “Everything You Want” — the breakout single from the band’s major-label debut of the same name — playing on my radio one morning as I was heading off to school. Middle school.
Now, as graduate student at Newhouse, my response was, “Are you serious?”
He was.
The Washington D.C.-based band is back on the road promoting their sixth studio album, Burning The Days, and they’re scheduled to stop Monday in Syracuse at the Westcott Theater.
The latest album features 12 new tracks as well as guest contributions from prolific Rush drummer Neal Peart and singer-songwriter Richard Marx. While Neal and Richard aren’t scheduled to join lead vocalist/guitarist Matt Scannell and his band onstage, this will be a perfect opportunity to hear fresh, live material from a band that most of us are familiar with but haven’t heard from in quite a while.
Undoubtedly, they’ll treat us to some of their signature songs as well.
If you need a refresher, check out the video below for “Everything You Want.” You know these guys.
