In a passing conversation last week, a friend of mine mentioned that Vertical Horizon [4] was coming to Syracuse. My mind jumped back almost a decade.
I distinctly remembered hearing “Everything You Want” [5] — the breakout single from the band’s major-label debut of the same name — playing on my radio one morning as I was heading off to school. Middle school.
Now, as graduate student at Newhouse, my response was, “Are you serious?”
He was.
The Washington D.C.-based band is back on the road promoting their sixth studio album, Burning The Days, and they’re scheduled to stop Monday in Syracuse at the Westcott Theater [6].
The latest album features 12 new tracks as well as guest contributions from prolific Rush drummer Neal Peart and singer-songwriter Richard Marx. While Neal and Richard aren’t scheduled to join lead vocalist/guitarist Matt Scannell and his band onstage, this will be a perfect opportunity to hear fresh, live material from a band that most of us are familiar with but haven’t heard from in quite a while.
Undoubtedly, they’ll treat us to some of their signature songs as well.
If you need a refresher, check out the video below for “Everything You Want.” You know these guys.
Doors for the all-ages show open at 7 p.m. with openers Just Jinjer, Clayton Senne and Silent Fury on the bill. Tickets are $20 in advance.
