Orange erases 10-point second half deficit, but still falls to the Wildcats

Villanova (16-13, 6-10) scored 14 of the games final 18 points on Monday night at the Pavillion on their way to a 68-60 victory over the Orange. The loss made Syracsue (17-13, 6-10) the No. 12 seed for the Big East tournament. The Orange will play Providence at 12 p.m. on Friday in Hartford, Conn.

Here's three thoughts from SU's loss to Villanova:

The Syracuse track and field team traveled to Cornell for the second straight week in a final tuneup for the upcoming Big East Championships. Senior Kwaku Boah had a good day in the field events for the Orange.

For the second straight weekend, the Syracuse University track and field team competed at Cornell University. Similarly, for the second straight weekend, senior thrower Kwaku Boah torched the competition.

Boah competed in his signature events – the hammer throw and shot put – placing in the top five in each. In the hammer throw, Boah took home the title with a toss of 53.73 meters. As for shot put, Boah placed third with a throw of 14.52 meters.

Career-high 8 points for Tee Ladouceur lead Syracuse before match up against Georgetown

The No. 18 Syracuse University women’s lacrosse team (10-7, 7-1 Big East) clinched at least a share of the Big East regular season title after a 20-6 victory over the Villanova Wildcats (5-11, 1-7 Big East) at Villanova, Pa. Tee Ladouceur led the way for the Orange offense with a career-high 8 points.

Jenna Caira shines on the mound in first game, freshman Jasmine Watson hits three home runs in game two.

Syracuse kept their small winning streak alive as they won both games in a double header against Villanova. Despite an early rain delay, the umpires were able to squeeze in both games. For Syracuse (28-10, 7-5) both wins put their Big East record two games over .500 while Villanova (15-25-1, 2-11) continued to flounder in conference play as they lost both their tenth and eleventh in Big East play.

Villanova handed Syracuse its first loss of the season and snapped the Orange's 18 game winning streak. Monday, SU will travel to Philadelphia with an opportunity to return the favor.

After a thrilling overtime victory against Rutgers, the Syracuse Orange are heading to Philadelphia to face the Villanova Wildcats. SU will look to avenge its earlier season loss when Villanova defeated the Orange, 82-73, and snapped its 18 game win-streak.

After a poor performance recently at Hobart, the SU men’s lacrosse team gets back on track in a Monday afternoon game.

The Orange came into Monday’s game with a 5-1 record, 1-0 (Big East), fresh off a sloppy 9-8 overtime win against Hobart. The Wildcats entered the game with a 5-2 record and a two-game winning streak. But this game, the Wildcats first ever in the Big East Conference, was one Villanova would like to forget.

After getting off to a 1-0 start thanks to sophomore midfielder Michael Vigilante, the Wildcats did not have much else to cheer about. SU went on to score three consecutive goals and take a 5-2 lead going into the second quarter.

Watch the night inside the Carrier Dome unfold as Syracuse University makes history.

The numbers still seem astounding.

IWithin the Carrier Dome, 34,616 fans simultaneously cheered, screamed and let their Orange spirit explode for two solid hours Saturday night as Syracuse ripped Villanova  95-77.

Fans watched for 40 minutes as players battled on Jim Boeheim's court-- 10 guys sweating, bumping and fighting for control of the ball and the most baskets.  Two bitter rivals tangling for the top position in the Big East and top seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament.

Syracuse clinches a share of the Big East regular season title with a 95-77 thrashing of Villanova in front of a NCAA record crowd at the Carrier Dome.

On a day when the unexpected happened, the Syracuse basketball team performed as expected. The No. 1 and No. 2 teams in college basketball, Kansas and Kentucky, lost earlier in the day.  Even the U.S. four-man bobsled team slid into the upset parade, ending a 60-year drought by winning a gold medal  in Vancouver.

Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim saw his team fall behind 23-14 to the Villanova Wildcats (23-5, 12-4 Big East), and decide to roll his dice, looking to hit the lucky seven. His seven ‘starters,’ that is.

The match-up Orange fans have been talking is their banged-up star forward Wesley Johnson vs. Villanova’s all-NCAA point guard Scottie Reynolds.

When a record-breaking crowd of more than 34,000 fans watch the No. 4 Syracuse Orange play the No. 7 Villanova Wildcats at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, they’ll see a matchup of two of the best basketball teams heading into the NCAA tournament.

What they’ll very rarely see, however, is the match-up that Orange fans have been talking about all week: Syracuse’s banged-up star forward Wesley Johnson facing Villanova’s all-NCAA point guard Scottie Reynolds one-on-one.

When Pat Manley made a giant cutout of Syracuse Basketball coach Jim Boeheim's head, he wasn't planning to start a phenomenon.

All his life, Pat Manley heard the criticisms of the Syracuse student section at the Carrier Dome. It was always too quiet, too boring. That it lacked the creativity of other, better student sections around the Big East.

It is a perception Manley, a current SU graduate student majoring in political science, set out to change. So when the opportunity arose to do something about it, he made sure to take advantage.
