The Orange become the first ever Big East tournament champions with a win over St. John's.

It was another easy day for the Orange men's lacrosse team as it cruised by the St. John's Red Storm in the inaugural Big East lacrosse tournament championship. Syracuse shut down St. John's in the first half, heading into the locker room up 7-0. The second half was a lot more relaxed. The Orange got a lot of subs into the game and ended up with a 12-4 victory.

Here are my three thoughts from the game:

1. Consistency is key...

The Orange take home the Kraus-Simmons trophy for the sixth-straight year.

The Hobart-Syracuse rivalry dates back to 1916. The Orange lost that first game almost 100 years ago, but have controlled the series ever since. Syracuse took home the Kraus-Simmons trophy for the 71st time tonight with a 13-12 victory that came down to the final seconds. The Orange dominated the first half, taking a 10-4 lead into halftime. But a series of mistakes and some great play from the Statesmen resulted in one goal game with just nine seconds to go. The Orange won the face-off due to a Hobart violation and held on for the win.

Here are three thoughts:

Syracuse took down Providence Saturday in the Carrier Dome 10-9.

The No. 17 Syracuse Orange (5-4) picked up a win Saturday against the No. 11 Princeton Tigers (6-3) in front of a home crowd at the Carrier Dome. The Orange scored 4 unanswered goals during a decisive third quarter to win its first game in over two weeks.

"It was a very good win for us," coach John Desko said. "We're gonna enjoy it for the next ten minutes here and then get ready for the (Cornell) Big Red on Tuesday."

The Orange lose consecutive games for the first time since 2007.

It was a rainy Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for the Konic Minolta Big City Classic as the No. 14 Syracuse Orange (4-4) fell to the No. 8 Duke Blue Devils (9-3). The Orange came out strong in the first quarter, jumping out to a 3-1 lead. Duke took a one-goal lead into halftime and then a three-goal lead in the third quarter. The Orange stormed back to tie the game, but a series of bad turnovers resulted in a Duke victory. This was the first time that Duke has beaten Syracuse since 1978.

The Orange's offensive onslaught buried Providence.

After losing to Johns Hopkins, the Orange (4-2) came out strong Thursday against Providence (1-4) in a 10-6 victory. The Friars weren't really expected to put up much of a fight. Their only win this season came against Wagner. So this was just the game the Orange needed to get back on track heading into a matchup with No. 14 Villanova on Sunday.

The 2012 season starts in Carrier Dome Sunday for the Syracuse University men's lacrosse team in game against Albany — but who will replace the seven lost starters from last year's team?

The Syracuse University lacrosse team enters this season having lost one of the most decorated senior classes in Orange history.

No. 8 Syracuse beats No. 7 Maryland in friendly scrimmage

The Syracuse men’s lacrosse team mounted a comeback in the final minute of the fourth quarter Sunday to beat No. 7 Maryland 11-9 in the first scrimmage of the afternoon. The Orange then fell to Canisius 11-10 after a Golden Griffin goal with one second left on the clock.

The last time Syracuse played against Maryland was during the quarterfinals of last year's NCAA tournament. The Orange lost in overtime in that game.

Syracuse jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and then pulled away in the second half to defeat a pesky Siena squad 10-4 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Syracuse moved into the NCAA quarterfinals Sunday with a 10-4 win over Siena, avenging the shocking upset to Army a year ago.

Johns Hopkins transfer Tommy Palasek played a big role in getting the Orange out of the first round this season, having his hand in each of Syracuse’s first four goals.

The SU men's lacrosse team handed Notre Dame its first loss of the season Saturday, in the form of an 11-8 setback. The win put the Orange in position to win the Big East and lock up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament.

Syracuse used offensive creativity and great goaltending to defeat No. 1 Notre Dame, 11-8, Saturday, in a front of 14,751 fans. Senior attacker Stephen Keogh scored four goals for SU and senior goaltender John Galloway stifled Notre Dame with 12 saves.

“We’re out there having fun and it’s showing,” senior midfielder Joel White said.

After falling behind 1-0, Syracuse reeled off 11 straight goals to blow away Rutgers, 12-2, and set up a showdown with the No. 1 ranked fighting Irish this coming Saturday.

In the second annual Warrior Lacrosse Classic in East Hartford, Conn., Syracuse University won its third consecutive game with a blowout win over Rutgers University, 12-2.

With the win, Syracuse improves to 12-1(4-0), while Rutgers drops to 5-7, (0-3) following its sixth consecutive loss. Syracuse now owns a 39-8 lead in the all-time series between these two schools.
