The men's and women’s basketball teams arrived in style on Friday at the Carrier Dome, getting fans excited for their seasons at Orange Madness.

Orange legend Carmelo Anthony couldn’t make it, but prepared a video in advance sending his support. He introduced rapper Jadakiss, who pumped-up the crowd prior to introductions.

Head coach Jim Boeheim received a standing ovation for what will be his 41st season.

From Derrick Coleman to John Wallace in basketball and Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Lloyd Little in football, the number 44 has been a lucky omen for Syracuse athletics.

The trend continued Wednesday night, as freshman guard Tyler Ennis hit a game-winning, buzzer beating three-pointer after No. 25 Pittsburgh (20-5, 8-4 ACC) took the lead against No. 1 Syracuse (24-0, 11-0 ACC) with 4.4 seconds left in the game.

The Orange shot poorly throughout the contest, but shot enough from the free throw line to keep lead on the Raiders.

The Syracuse Orange used a strong defensive showing to make up for a rough shooting performance in a 69-50 win over Colgate Saturday. The No. 9 Orange (3-0) shot poorly from the field (36.8 percent), from three-point range (29.2 percent) and from the free throw line (42.9 percent).

“We can’t miss the free throws and lay ups that we missed,” Head Coach Jim Boeheim said. “We have to shoot it a little better.”

The Orange men's basketball team is the top-ranked team in the country for the first time since 1990. Head coach Jim Boeheim says it's time to stop celebrating, and Halftime Snack thinks fans should listen up.

College basketball fans are emotional, narrow-minded, and hard of hearing. In other words: just like the players. The blood pressure is rising, the sweaty bodies are banging around, and you never want the passion to be in question. And then you ignore your coach.

The current Orange squad, more talented and balanced than many can remember, and is 27-2 beacuse they believed in the system the head coach set up. The result: Syracuse received the top ranking in both major college basketball polls released on Monday.
