Syracuse's explosive 23-1 run starting two minutes into the first half allowed them to coast to a dominant victory.

The No. 25 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (14-6) scored the first five points of the game while keeping the Syracuse Orange (14-8) off the board for the first two minutes and twenty-four seconds. Soon after, however, Syracuse became almost unstoppable, going on a 23-1 run that didn’t see the Fighting Irish score a field goal for four minutes and 51 seconds. Syracuse maintained at least a double-digit lead from then on en route to a dominating 81-66 victory.

The Orange fall in the season-finale

The Orange came into South Bend with a chance to possibly clinch an NCAA Tournament berth. The team didn't play like it had anything to prove in the first half, going scoreless for the first two quarters of the game. After Notre Dame took a 4-0 lead into halftime, Syracuse lit a fire and came out strong in the second half. The bench was energized, the players were fighting for ground balls and the Orange looked like it could win the game. But the Fighting Irish fought off Syracuse and never let them cut the lead to less than one.

What to watch for as the Big East gets set for tip-off at its end-of-the-year tournament at Madison Square Garden.

The Favorite - Syracuse

No one in the Big East combines raw ability with length and athleticism like the Orange do.

The Dark horse - Cincinnati

The Bearcats have the guards to make a run and create mismatches with their small lineup.

Knocked out early - Notre Dame

Had a big win over SU, but ND relies too much on the long ball. If they're not falling the Irish will have a short stay in New York City.

Syracuse was only able to score 19 points in the first half against ND

Poor shooting plagued the Syracuse women's basketball team (15-10, 4-7) in their 74-55 loss to No. 2 ranked Notre Dame (24-1, 11-0) on Tuesday night in the Carrier Dome. SU shot 19% from the field in the first half which enabled the FIghting Irish to get off to a quick start with easy transition buckets.
