Campus display honors victims of Sept. 11 attacks

College Republicans staked dozens of American flags on the lawn between the Schine Student Center and Newhouse School.

As students and visitors walk the pathway between the Schine Student Center and the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, they will notice a moving display.

A field filled with mini American flags serves as a tribute to the nearly 3,000 victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Ron Paul champions individual liberty at Syracuse

The former Congressman from Texas and presidential candidate discussed national issues to a sold-out audience at Hendricks Chapel.

Former U.S. Rep. and Republican candidate for president Ron Paul spoke at Hendricks Chapel Wednesday night about many issues, but heavily emphasized individual liberty.

“The answer isn’t in more government, the answer is for more liberty for individuals to take care of themselves,” Paul said.

Mike Huckabee speaks on the future of conservatism

Former Arkansas governor, 2008 Republican Presidential candidate and current talk show host Mike Huckabee spoke on campus about his views on conservatism in America.

Mike Huckabee knew plenty of people at Syracuse University would disagree with his views. Yet the well-known conservative figure said that’s the reason he enjoyed speaking not just here, but at all college campuses.

At a past visit to Cornell University, where his hosts said 100 students were against his visit, Huckabee recalled asking to be dropped  off in front of the protestors. Much to their surprise, Huckabee thanked them for reminding him why he loves America, and felt the same way when visiting S.U.

If there was one word to describe the Karl Rove talk organized by College Republicans at Syracuse University on Wednesday night, it would be "safe." There was no Valerie Plame. Not a mention of the controversial entry into the Iraq War, nor of the firing of U.S. state attorneys during the Bush administration. None of that.

In fact, all questions for former President George W. Bush's senior adviser had to be submitted to and screened by the moderator prior to the Q-and-A session.
