Interim head coach Mike Hopkins won his first game at the helm.
The Syracuse Orange (7-2) have now won 50 straight games against the Colgate Raiders (2-6). The Raiders haven’t beaten Syracuse since Feb. 24, 1962, by a score of 67-63 in the Manley Field House. John F. Kennedy was the President of the United States and interim head coach Mike Hopkins hadn’t been born yet.
The Orange men's lacrosse team started strong and cruised to a 19-6 win over the Raiders.
The No. 4 Syracuse men’s lacrosse team showed no signs of any kind of post-ACC Tournament hangover Saturday, as the Orange rolled over Colgate,19-6, at the Carrier Dome. The Orange came out strong early and never looked back, giving their seniors a good memory for their last home game.
“Today was a great game for us,” head coach John Desko said. “I thought we came out and played well in all facets of the game. I was very happy with the way everyone played right from the start.”
The Orange shot poorly throughout the contest, but shot enough from the free throw line to keep lead on the Raiders.
The Syracuse Orange used a strong defensive showing to make up for a rough shooting performance in a 69-50 win over Colgate Saturday. The No. 9 Orange (3-0) shot poorly from the field (36.8 percent), from three-point range (29.2 percent) and from the free throw line (42.9 percent).
“We can’t miss the free throws and lay ups that we missed,” Head Coach Jim Boeheim said. “We have to shoot it a little better.”
SU running back Delone Carter runs for four touchdowns as the Orange crush Colgate 42-7.
It was an eventful day for football Saturday at the Carrier Dome. Members of the 1984 Syracuse team that defeated then number one Nebraska at the Carrier Dome were honored for Legends Day. It was also the renewal of a Central New York football rivalry as the Colgate Raiders made a visit to play Syracuse for the first time since 1987.
