SU forced five turnovers, but mustered only 15 points at MetLife Stadium on Saturday evening.

Through the first quarter, Syracuse matched up with Notre Dame as well as any team had during the 2014 season.

Unfortunately for the Orange, there was still 45 minutes of play.

On a humid Saturday night in front of 76,802 fans, the largest crowd ever for a college football game at MetLife Stadium, the Orange sputtered midway through its contest with the No. 8 Fighting Irish and fell 31-15.

The SU offense piled up 589 yards, but a pair of turnovers and special-teams blunders proved costly.

Playing in front of an announced crowd of 40,511 and looking to go 3-0 for the first time since 1991, Syracuse just couldn’t get out of its own way.

He even created a fictitious radio station, WMPA, which was inspired by his initials.

Now 73 years old, that young kid with a made-up radio network has become one of the most recognizable voices in sports broadcasting.

Only two days after its speed was on full display, Syracuse showed it can also bring physicality to the pitch at SU Soccer Stadium.

In a game littered with chippy play, the Orange had enough finesse to convert three times offensively en route to a 3-0 victory over St. Mary's in the final game of the Central New York Soccer Classic on Sunday.

Syracuse (2-0-0) has now opened three consecutive seasons with a pair of victories.

Orange wins bizarre game on touchdown pass by Riley Dixon in double overtime.

Syracuse turned to an unlikely hero Friday night at the Carrier Dome.

Facing fourth and goal from the Villanova one-yard line in double overtime, punter and place-holder Riley Dixon connected with tight end Kendall Moore for a go-ahead touchdown. Moments later, Robert Welsh tackled Wildcat quarterback John Robertson on a two-point conversion attempt to help SU escape with a 27-26 victory.

TOWSON, Md. — Syracuse attack Alyssa Murray sounded hopeful on Friday evening, talking about how she had been there before. She remembered how awful it felt two years ago when the Orange fell to Northwestern in the national championship.
