Toxic sludge has made its way to the Danube River

The continent's second largest river has been infected by the aluminum plant leak.

The toxic red sludge that leaked from an aluminum plant in Hungary has reached the Danube River this morning despite emergency officials efforts to contain the leak.

According to CNN, about 250 people have been evacuated from their homes and police forces in some villages are on patrol to prevent looters.

The environmental disaster has already killed two children, ages 1 and 3, as well as a 35-year-old woman.

A state of emergency has been declared in three countries according to the State Secretariat of Governmental Communications.
