Sarah A. McCarty is a graduate student at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in the Goldring Arts Journalism program. She is originally from Northeast Tennessee and graduated from The University of Tennessee in 2006 with a B.A. in journalism and electronic media and a minor in cinema studies.
She did an internship with Atlanta magazine from August 2006 through February 2007. While interning in Atlanta, she also wrote freelance articles for area publications. In June 2007 she started working as a reporter for Grainger Today, a weekly community newspaper in Northeast Tennessee. She was promoted to community editor in 2008. She also wrote freelance feature articles for Athens Blur magazine, a music-based publication serving the Athens, Georgia area.
