Profile

About Me:

Alejandra Acuña is an arts journalist and master's degree candidate in the Syracuse University Goldring Arts Journalism program with emphasis in fashion and art. She is from Bogota, Colombia, and is an aspiring editor for a lifestyle magazine. She is a 2013 graduate of The University of Miami with a B.S. in Communication Studies in Journalism, International Studies and Art. Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Acuña grew up throughout southern United States, is fluent in Spanish, and learned English and some French along the way.

During her summers in Colombia, Acuña traveled through her diverse country and met locals with all types of cultures within her own. Her time in Colombia inspired her love for the arts. Her great-grandfather was the internationally renowned artist Luis Alberto Acuña, which inspired her to divulge her summers in the arts. This is why she has specialized in creative aspects of journalism, including graphic design and photography. Visual journalism is just as important to her as developing her writing skills.

Acuña’s work has been published in The South Florida Arts ReviewThe Miami Planet, and The National Parks Association. Was also the Editor of the Lifestyles section in the University of Miami Ibis Yearbook and was an intern in the Univision Art Department and VENUE Magazine, a bilingual luxury magazine in Miami, FL. She has recently been published in publications like The Syracuse New Times and is now an intern at Syracuse.com.
