Four players scored in the double-digits for the Orange as it was a dominant team performance that propelled Syracuse to its first ACC victory. Freshman Malachi Richardson recorded a game-high 15 points while going 6-6 from the foul line. Graduate Michael Gbinije tallied 14 points, six rebounds and four steals, and junior Tyler Roberson earned his third double-double of the season, hauling in 12 rebounds and scoring 10 points. Senior DaJuan Coleman joined the action tallying 10 points of his own.
The Eagles and Orange went tit-for-tat in baskets to begin the game, but Gbinije’s three-pointer at the 8:42 mark jolted Syracuse to a 14-0 run, taking them to a 23-11 advantage. The Eagles would make one basket to halt the run momentarily, but Syracuse would continue its onslaught with seven more unanswered points to finish the first half ahead, 30-15.
Boston College would start the second half soaring, and eventually brought the game back to a respectable seven-point deficit, 35-28, with 13:56 to play. But, Coleman stepped up in the paint, bringing down a powerful two-handed dunk to ignite a 11-0 Syracuse run.
The Orange’s largest lead of the game, 25 points, came after Richardson drilled a long three-pointer at the 8:49 mark.
Eli Carter led the Eagles offense with 13 points off of 5-11 shooting. The team struggled to muster much rhythm when the ball wasn’t being moved around by his hands. Boston College shot 31 percent from the floor on the night.
Syracuse had a 47 field-goal percentage, while going 4-17 from beyond the arc.
